About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Practice resurrection.

ABOUT ME

Greetings! I'm a solidly midwestern environmentalist and follower of Jesus, who has lived in Wisconsin, Michigan, and now Minnesota, with a brief but wonderful stay in Appalachia along the way. My jobs since high school have taken me from coaching gymnastics, teaching science and environmental education, working in kitchens, starting a campus farm, and now to working on sustainable food at an urban college. When I'm not at work, I'm out exploring the lakes and rivers in the Twin Cities, cooking and eating with friends, or hanging out on my porch. My friends and family would agree that I'm pretty laid back, always willing to pitch in and help with whatever needs to be done, and on the look out for adventures wherever I am.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because traveling is more meaningful when you get to know a place from the neighbors and neighborhoods that make it what is it.

Because all people have stories to share, and the only way to hear those stories is to spend time with people.

And because hotels are expensive, isolated, and sometimes smelly :)

Interests

Plants. Games. Handstands. Experimental baking. Vegetables. Cookies. Yes, you can like vegetables and cookies. And ice cream. Listening and learning from the people, plants, animals, and places around me. Serious or silly discussions on the intersection of faith, environmental stewardship, justice, and what it means to be human in this crazy but beautiful world we live in.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing is relative. Anything can be amazing if you let it be so. Like... a walk, a sunset, a bird scratching its ears, people on the subway, a fresh tomato. It all depends on perspective in the moment!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer a couch (which pulls out into a bed), an air mattress, or a hammock or tent in the back yard for anyone who stops by! Also, food and homemade ice cream. I'm still relatively new to Minneapolis, but I know the neighborhoods that I live (Phillips) and work in (Cedar-Riverside) pretty well, so I'm happy to offer suggestions on places to visit, food to eat, and ways to get places by bike, bus, or light rail. My house is a few blocks from the Midtown Global Market, 1.5 miles from downtown, and 2.5 miles either way to the lakes and the Mississippi River. And depending on my work schedule, I might be able to join you on adventures around the city!

Countries I’ve Visited

Dominican Republic, England, France, Ghana, New Zealand, Samoa
