About Me

We are Almayadine, a local community association, non-governmental, non profit-making, non-political. This association is located in Morocco, specifically in the rural community town of Tioughza.

Our main goal is to help and improve the education and upbringing of children in Tioughza. In order to achieve our objective, we have organised two houses to use them as learning centres where we can help children, in a daily basis, with their homework and language skills in French as well as English.

During the weekend, Friday to Sunday, we organised different activities which normally include art projects (painting - sculpturing - acting), playing musical instruments, sport competitions, exploring days, group games, and open air cinema sessions.

At the moment we are working with a group of more than 60 children and teenagers divided in several small classes depending of their age, knowledge, skills, and interests.

Almayadine is running by locals volunteers, however we have also had great experiences with international volunteers coming from different part of the world, they have motivated us to create our profiles in WorkAway and Couchsurfing in order to bring more volunteers on board. We have seen how our children and teenagers have improved their language skills and grown up with open minds toward the multiculturalism of the world as a result of their interaction with international volunteers.

This project started two years ago, we are trying to keep it growing and growing as much as the community of Tioughza needed.

Tioughza is a rural community town in Sidi Ifni Province of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region of Morocco. At the time of the 2004 census, the commune had a total population of 12,268 people living in 2168 households.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Volunteering is about given, but it is also about receiving. We are super conscious on this point, and because of that we would like to share with you our daily routine which includes traditional meals, meeting with locals, go for shopping in the Thursday weekly market where traders from all around the region come to sale their products in a really authentic and traditional way, we will try to take you for a day trip on Sundays to different places around the town and also around the region, normally we go to places like Sidi Ifni or Legzira which is a world heritage site and also is the Morroco's most unique beach. However, near by our town there are many beautiful places to visit, from the desert's gate to the Tamoucha mountains.

You will also learn about our culture, and languages (Tamazight and Arab)

What I Can Share with Hosts

You will be sleeping in the second floor of the our association where there are 3 rooms, kitchen, and toilet . We can not provide you food for your stay, but if you have all your meals in the local restaurants then you would spend maximum 70 drh per day, if you cook at home then you will be spending a lot less than that. However, we would eat with you most of the time if you want, so we can share costs and get kto now each other better, anyway we are sure that food is not going to be an issue while you are being hosting by us, and also you will get a deeply knowledge of our culture and community having the different meals and tees through every day life here in Tioughza with us.
