About Me

Hi, I am or I try to be a film director (because I still don't believe it) but I am an audiovisual editor as a freelancer. I grew up in a small country town and came to live in the city when I was 20 years old. I'm outgoing and sociable, although sometimes I like to share moments of solitude and silence. I'm very passionate about music, I listen to all kinds of genres but I've already been told that I'm an indie/hipster so I assume it. I'm living alone and I spend most of my time sitting at the computer working or playing some videogame or other. If I could change professions I'd be a game developer, but for now I'm content to enjoy them.

I'm gay, so homophobes, please stay away! :(

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am here to make friends, to help those who want to share moments with a friend in the city and of course to offer shelter to those who need a place to sleep if their money does not allow it. My mother taught me to always help those who need it. Being alone in the house, and not wanting to have roomate, I prefer to meet and share moments with all kinds of people and I think this is the right place. I may not have the time to go out and party one day but when I do have the time I find it hard to go out alone. I prefer to have someone to go out with, whether it's walking, partying or to the theater. I'm not the type to go out alone :"u

Music, Movies, and Books

I've gone from listening to emo music to reggaeton. But if there is something that persists in my playlist are rock bands like The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, Car Seat Headrest. But I really like Latin American alternative music artists and also some Japanese singers. Although I like to know and discover music from all over the world. Before writing me, please recommend me a song :)

Movies are a bit complicated. Unfortunately I find it hard to enjoy it as a spectator without separating it from my profession, I'm always analyzing it. I can't choose a favorite director or a favorite movie. But if there is a film that I have in my mind as a reference of my ideal cinema is “Dancer in the dark” by Lars Von Trier, starring my favorite singer: Björk. Before you write me, please recommend me a movie :)

About literature, I used to read a lot a long time ago, but lately I can't concentrate. My main reference in cinema does not come from a director, but from a writer, and that is Gabriel García Márquez. The kind of cinema I want to make has to do a lot with his concept of magical-realism in Latin American villages and especially the relationship with the family memory and the visual poetry that his words generate. I would love to get a book recommendation... but I don't promise to read it as soon as possible... it will take me more time. But I will gladly read it and let you know what I think. I might be motivated to take up literature again if you start recommending books :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I would like to say that I jumped off a mountain or climbed a volcano but even in my 30's I can't find that “incredible” thing I've done. I associate the incredible with my professional achievements, such as being selected in a very prestigious international film lab, winning an incredible fund from the Netherlands or that my work has been screened in more than 50 film festivals around the world, including CineLebu in Chile which is a qualifying festival for the Oscars and the Goyas. Those are the things I consider “incredible”. Hopefully these incredible things will continue to happen to me, while I hope one day to be able to climb that fire volcano in Guatemala.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to surround myself with all kinds of people, not just artists. From each individual I can learn something. And I love to talk about my passions and profession. I am always looking for unique and unrepeatable moments that become life experiences. Above all, I love to share my way of seeing things and help from my possibilities in everything I can.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer an independent room with a bed for two people in an apartment in Nuevo Vedado with beautiful views. Unfortunately that room does not have air conditioning but there is a fan and the air runs through the window. It is a very quiet apartment without the hustle and bustle of the city. I can offer you the real coexistence of a normal humble Cuban. From what I have to eat, it is shared. Of the places I know, I recommend them. And I can offer advice before arriving and while you are there so that you are not cheated or deceived. Cuba is not a violent country but with the issue of money they always try to take advantage of tourists. Tip number one: Come with USD in cash. You will have more money if you change it this way because the ATM's may not accept your cards or may charge you USD at a “LITTLE” of what you can actually have.
