About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be.

ABOUT ME

I'm currently travelling around the USA, attending some conferences, seeing some sights, having some adventures and meeting some lovely and interesting people.

I was a high school English teacher, but have taken a 3 year sabbatical to devote generous time to reading, writing, pontificating and naval gazing (aka a PhD in literature) and am thrilled that said mission has brought me to the Americas.

My brother Rob and I hosted when we shared a flat in Kensington, Sydney and found it a really interesting and rewarding experience. We met some really cool people and really enjoyed showing people some of the things we like about our own city.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the other side of couch surfing, and am confident that my experience of being a host will ensure that I'm good to my hosts!

PHILOSOPHY

Still working it out!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I'm in Sydney, I'm happy to host people, meet for dinner/drinks, go for walks/swimming, play squash (I'm pretty crap, but make up for lack of skill with enthusiasm!), go to gigs, exhibitions, festivals etc.

Looking to meet/stay with some great people, mostly in NYC as this is the leg of my trip where I'll be travelling on my own.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosted in Sydney 2011/Early 2012

Interests

Travelling (possibly a bit of a no-brainer being on CS and all), reading, writing, philosophy, conversation, music (huge range of genres), cooking, wine, beer, swimming, politics and Breaking Bad (the TV show, not cooking meth)

Some of my favorite books: A Confederacy of Dunces, The Immoralist, Disgrace, The Outsider, Washington Square, Dead Europe.

Some of my favorite bands/ artists: Blonde Redhead, Radiohead, Belle and Sebastian, Queens of the Stoneage, Calexico, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Sonic Youth.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I bungee jumped the Nevis Arc in NZ. Was packing it the whole time, but the photos are pretty cool!

Teach, Learn, Share

I fancy myself a bit of a master chef (specialist: breakfast) and am always happy to give the odd cooking lesson!

Also very into reciprocal knowledge exchange on any given subject!

Some of my skills/ interests: The novels of Phillip Roth and J.M. Coetzee, short stories (reading and writing), teaching (theory and practice), literary modernism/postmodernism, autobiography, politics, philosophy, music (huge range of genres and eras- unfortunately no musical skills of my own!), HBO Series (especially Game of Thrones), Breaking Bad, swimming.
