About Me

[CURRENTLY Not accepting guests due to COVID, but please feel free to message me if you have any questions about San Diego!]

I was born and raised in Hong Kong and moved to the United States when I was in elementary school. Hong Kong was a British colony returned to China in the year of 1997. This interesting background of Hong Kong exposed me to a very unique culture of "East meets West". It also trained me to be multilingual in Cantonese, English and Mandarin.

In my day-to-day life, I work as a manager for a local utility company.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe that travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer! Every trip is a valuable life lesson. This is especially true when you get to know the locals and learn about their cultures and values.

I have personally experienced it when I visited Vietnam in 2013. We went to the local markets and talked to our tour guides to try to get a sense of how living in Vietnam is like. Learning there are people in the world that makes US$2 a day, and still manage to be some of the happiest people I've met, was definitely a life-changing experience. I literally haven't complained about anything since then.

"I gave all my dead batteries away today, free of charge." If you're requesting to stay with me, let me know in your message if you had a good laugh at this lame dad joke or if you rolled your eyes or both. This will let me know if you've read my profile. There is no correct answer. ;P (sorry, but copy and paste requests get rejected right away)

I'm always stunned by the fact that many of us are stuck in the values and norms our societies set. By meeting people from different countries, I hope to learn more about different cultures and broaden my horizons.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Camping at Grand Canyon and heard coyotes and other animals walking and crawling outside our tents at night.

Went to Jjimjilbang (Korean bath house/spa) in Seoul, where you get completely undressed and soak in different tubs of mineral water with strangers. Totally outside my comfort zone but the experience was definitely priceless.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a pretty decent cook since I've been living by myself since I was 18. Local supermarkets/grocery stores are always on my list wherever I travel. I love to see what local people eat and cook, I also try to avoid going to touristy restaurants. I can probably show you how to cook a few Chinese family dishes.

And since I work in the utility field, I can also do an energy assessment of your house and give you recommendations on how to become more energy efficient!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Travel stories, travel tips, culture and history of Hong Kong, a list of "must-eat's" in cities I've visited, anything touristy you want to learn about San Diego. If time allows, I can cook!
