ABOUT ME

Alvaro:
I studied chemical engineering for five years in Bilbao (Basque Country), then I lived one year in Sweden while studying a master in energy systems. After that I went as EVS volunteer to Serbia for six months and since June 2008 I'm working as engineer in Germany. But recently I've found out that I don't really like this 8-h-a-day work live, so I have quited and I traveled until December 2009 visiting some eco-farms and alternative villages in the Alps and the North of Spain.
At the momment I'm doing my PhD on Energy Retrofitting of old Houses in Stuttgart, Germany.

Therese:
I studied special education to be teacher for mentaly disabled children and for children with social and learning problems. I also studied theater pedagogcie. Than I went to Sweden for half a year to studie there outdoor education, and met there Álvaro. Well than I was traveling in Switzerland and Spain with Álvaro. I work as teacher in a school for mentaly handicaped children.

PHILOSOPHY

Alvaro:
Enjoy your life as much as you can and try that others around you do it so.

Therese:
Be yourself, make others beeing!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Alvaro:
I discoverd Couchsurfing during my EVS time in Serbia, there I hosted loads of people together with my flatmates David and Corine. Not always where couchsurfers and sometimes contacted my other flatmates, that's why not so many references have been writen to me.
At the moment I have a place where I can accomodate some couch surfers, so they are very wellcome.

Therese:
I know couch surfing from Álvaro and I thought thats its really good idea!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Alvaro:
I have hosted many peple in Serbia (up to 14 people at the same time), some for a couple of days and some for up to two months! In every case the experience was really positive. Also in Stuttgart, we have had loads of nice people hosted.
As a couch surfer I have always found very nice and wellcoming people.

Therese:
I was now chousurfing in a lot of places in spain and portugal and Im looking forward, now that I have the posibility to host some nice people from all over the world and to show them a bit of german culture and my city.

Interests

Alvaro:
I'm interested in having a simple life, doing something I like, having free time for my hobbies and preserving the environment.
I play guitar, I like reading and I enjoy philosophical and political discussions while drinking a good German bier or hiking in the mountains.

Therese:
I enjoy a lot to be outside and in a trying to live as environmental friendly as posible. Soon hope to grow some vegetables in our own garden!!I also like anykind of cultural activities like theater, art, concerts. Im also interested in reading all kind of books, languages, to listen and to play music (sing, guitar, piano, flute and more) even if Im not an expert in all of this instruments and in good food! Long walks with my friends in the parks of Stuttgart and discussions about life is what I apreciate here a lot! As I work with disabled children Im very interested in humans and their behavour and in the development of the society and psycologci.

Music, Movies, and Books

Alvaro:
If you play any instrument or you like singing, you are very wellcome to a small home made jam session.
I like books and movies that make you think rather that the ones which keep your attention out from reality just for a while.

Therese:
Moovies: I like strange, original and critical films and films with dark humor.
Music...depends to my feelings

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Alvaro:
For me it's amazing that wherever you go you find people ready to host you and share everything they have. That's crazy!

Therese:
Nobody is perfect!

Teach, Learn, Share

Alvaro:
I can teach Spanish and Basque.
I could help you with maths, phisics, chemistry,... If I still remember something! Some guitar too.

Therese:
I can show you cooking some traditional german food, I know a lot of plants and which of them you can eat and show them to you, teach you about the historical development of the part of Stuttgart where I live, play music, games...
I want to learn about you and your country and about whatever I will feel interested in when I meet you.
I would like to share a good time with you!
