My name is Alyssa, I was born and raised in Alberta Canada. I've been involved in the arts since childhood and have been working in the field ever since. I attended university for a bachelor of arts in Anthropology and I am currently studying photography and visual design. I'm very passionate about the earth, plants, healthy food, human connection, sustainability, and creativity.
I have been wanting to travel the world and experience other cultures and ways of life for years now.
So far I have spent 4 months volunteering and getting my 200hr yoga teacher training in India, traveled all across Canada and the Western United States, Northern Dominican Republic and Amsterdam. The list of places I want to go is extremely extensive. I'm extremely friendly and would love to meet new people and make new friends!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I feel like the best way to experience a new place is to immerse yourself with the locals. To get the most honest experience of what the place is about and the people who live there. Most of all I want to meet new people and make friends in every place that I go. You can learn so much from other people and that makes experiences more meaningful and unique.

Art of all varieties. Photography, journalism, health, nature, veganism, sustainability, adventure, yoga. I want to learn new languages and meet new people and gain new outlooks. I want to see how others live and what makes them happy. I want to learn new things, gain new skills and refine the ones I have.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I love old 50's swing music. Oldies like Sam Cooke, Dion and the Belmonts. Anything new that has a nice sound and makes you want to get up and dance.
Books: I love anything with an intelligent plot. Something well thought out and intense. Favourite authors include Tom Robbins and Paulo Cohelo. I love The Alchemist and The Power of Now.
Movies: I love so many movies, HUGE theatre junkie! Some favourites include Avatar, V for Vendetta, and anything with a plot that surprises you at the end.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've traveled to India for 4 months, volunteered in schools in Delhi and Dharamsala, gotten my yoga teaching certification, and rode camels in the desert.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn everything there is to learn from real people who are genuinely interested in sharing their knowledge with me. I want to get a sense of what a place is all about and make new friends. Community is extremely important!
I've been working on learning Spanish for three years now, and I would love to have someone to practice with and learn more from!

What I can teach: I have extensive knowledge about the arts, most mediums and practices. I know lots about health and nutrition, especially around the topic of super-foods and nutritional info on various plants. I love yoga and studied eastern religions for two years in university. I also have some pretty embarrassing (but super fun) dance moves if you'd like to learn those.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have extensive knowledge about healthy cooking and vegan/vegetarian food! I'm passionate about sustainable living and all things plants/nature. I'm a certified yoga teacher and experienced photographer/designer.
