ABOUT ME

My name's Alyssa, and I'm a student from the United States. I go to Truman State University located in the small town of Kirksville, Missouri in the northeast part of the state. In the spring of 2009 I spent a semester abroad in Glasgow, Scotland, and I hope to move to Britain when I'm done with uni in the US. I'm studying English Linguistics for my undergraduate degree, and I'm not ashamed to say I'm not sure where it will lead me yet. I'm considering obtaining my TEFL certification somewhere abroad and teaching English around the world before finding a place to call home. Anything else you'd like to know, please feel free to ask.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have hosted several fantastic CSers and hope to host more in time. I also enjoy meeting up with fellow CSers to share experiences and learn more about this fantastic planet we enjoy.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Though I have not yet surfed on the couches of others, I have hosted several wonderful surfers in my time in Glasgow. I hope to continue with this the rest of my life!

Interests

I love new experiences, going on walks, being outside as much as humanly possible, music, serving others and exploring. I'm very active in my service fraternity and have recently become involved with the St. Baldrick's Foundation as a shavee. (Yes, I shaved my head to raise money for kids with cancer, and I wouldn't change it for the world!)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music. John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Michael Bublé, Frank Sinatra, Josh Groban, Lady GaGa, The Beatles, Cobra Starship, and Tommy Reilly are some of my favourites. I have a deep appreciation from baroque to hip-hop, from country to bollywood, from bubblegum pop to bagpipes. Music is a huge part of my life. Some of my favorite movies are Smokin' Aces, Boondock Saints, Zoolander, Little Miss Sunshine, Meet Joe Black, Rent, Anchorman, Caddyshack, Moulin Rouge, The Italian Job, The Departed, Hot Fuzz, It's Pat, Fight Club, and Across the Universe. And my favorite movie of all time is Ocean's 11.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Laying on a rock by a waterfall in Rocky Mountain National Park, looking up at the crystal clear blue sky just staring in wonder of the world around me.

Backpacking through Europe for two weeks provided me with some of my best memories in life.

The best week of my life was spent with an amazing person, traveling the Southern parts of England and the Isle of Wight.
