About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to find the best park in whatever city I am in.
ABOUT ME
Well - I used to work a lot, now I am taking a break and trying to relax and enjoy having nothing with me but a backpack. What I am looking for is a great spot to have a beer, a hike, a day on the beach or to discover something new: an painting by an artist I have never heard of, a castle ruin, cave paintings, an old cemetery, a friend in an unexpected place... or an awesome patch of grass to take a nap.
PHILOSOPHY
Do everything! No, I have realized it is impossible to do everything, so I try to do a lot of activities but also find time to rest and reflect. I am always looking for the new thing and think I should maybe try to learn to really get to know some of the old things instead...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Right now I am travelling, so I am very interested in your couch! in the future I would like to be able to host people wherever I am. Travelling can be exhausting and I would like to find as well as be able to provide a calm place to stay and ideas for what to do that are less obvious and more up to date than what's in a guidebook.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My favorite couchsurfing story is when my friends and I were going to sleep in a train station in Pisa for the night before our connecting journey but instead ended up meeting some locals in town and stayed up most of the night walking around the city and hanging out (then slept on their couches until the next train...). It was even better because it was unexpected and certainly better than entertaining ourselves on the floor!
Interests
When I travel (and when I'm at home) I like to find the places that have history but are falling apart. Of course I appreciate a well-done renovation but prefer to take in the great new thing of the past that has fallen into disrepair. Finding these places and photographing them makes me very happy but I also enjoy following the history of where I am, the odd art gallery, old cemetery or beautiful park where I can spend a day waiting for time to pass.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy all of these things! While I am not creepy, I tend to like dark movies but also comedies. David Lynch, Ingmar Bergman, Billy Wilder. Appreciate old film noir and spaghetti westerns immensely. Musically I probably end up in the Indie rock genre. I haven't paid attention for a little bit, but love Antlers, Cat Power, Nick Cave, Bonnie Prince Billy among MANY. I like to read a lot also. From The Woman in White to more recent non'fiction.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Climbing half dome in Yosemite Nat'l Park is definitely one of them. Road tripping through Nevada and watching the sun set over a creepy rusted car with a cow skull on it also tops the list. Maybe it wasn't amazing but it was a point when it felt really good to be alive.
Teach, Learn, Share
Many things interest me, but I would love to learn from people who are passionate about food and drink or art and music. That being said, I can nerd out about many things and would probably love learning from anyone who is passionate about what they do. What can I teach? I make a mean fried egg and also love indian food. Though a bit out of the loop lately, I also love to share new and old music.
