ABOUT ME

I hope that people view me as a free spirit; interesting, passionate, intelligent and not overly concerned with society's social expectations. However i feel i'm probably percieved as an excentric, bearded student who doesn't like to conform.

I spend alot of my time working on psychiatric wards with people suffering from acute mental illnesses (i'm training to be a nurse). I think this has instilled upon me a laid back attitude and an acceptance off everyone, no matter who they are.

I love travelling and spend most of my money on flights to random places and my main aspiration in life is to be able to look back on my life with a smile rather than a frown.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Afew years ago i was massively involved in couch surfing. My fiance (at the time) and i travelled around Eastern Europe for months hitch hiking and meeting the most wonderful and genuine people.

Things however didn't work out for us and now here i am making an account just for myself (as opposed to for the two of us). This is the reason for the very few friends, feedbacks and groups etc.

Interests

My hobbies include roleplaying and numerous other geeky games, i can often by found on the battlefield in the summer months re-enacting and i one day hope to move into an empty library so that i have somewhere to put my ever expanding book collection.

Ive recently got a camera which is something of an odity to me. I have never travelled with a camera before, often taking the stance that alot of people would just look at the world through a lens in order to prove to themselves or others that they had been somewhere. I wanted to experience a place properly... not just by taking a picture. I suppose we'll see if this view changes.

I feel that i could probably be almost interested in anything, truelly anything as long as i had someone to talk about it with.

I lived in a Buddhist monastery in some lesser known part of Thailand for 3 weeks.

The Invitation - Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dreams
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life's betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your
fingers and toes
without cautioning us to
be careful

to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me

If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

and shout to the silver of the full moon,

It doesn't interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after a night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the center of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.
