About Me

Hi! I'm Amaris, a language educator currently living in Japan but originally from the USA. I’m passionate about cultural exchange and education, having spent over five years teaching both English and Spanish to students of all ages. I love learning about different cultures, and my work has taken me to places like Mexico and Japan, where I’ve connected with amazing communities.

I enjoy traveling and exploring new places, which is why Couchsurfing is so appealing to me. I've lived in various countries, and I believe that the best part of traveling is meeting people and sharing stories. I’m a big believer in creating meaningful connections through kindness and open-mindedness.

When I'm not teaching or traveling, you can find me reading, hiking, or planning my next adventure. I'm excited to meet fellow travelers and locals who share a passion for learning and discovering the world together!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love a variety of music, from indie folk to Latin pop, depending on my mood. Some of my favorite artists include Café Tacvba, Fleet Foxes, and Kina Grannis. I’m always on the lookout for new music recommendations!

As for movies, I enjoy feel-good films and musicals. Mamma Mia! is one of my favorites, and I also love animated classics like Spirited Away.

In terms of books, I’m a fan of historical fiction and memoirs. The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros is a book I keep coming back to, and I also enjoy exploring Japanese literature.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things I've done is organize a multicultural event at the elementary school where I teach in Japan. I invited guest speakers to share their experiences, and we created a space where students could learn about different cultures from around the world. It was incredibly rewarding to see the kids engage with new perspectives and celebrate diversity!
