I'm a chilled out and easy going person, but also very organised - not normally a combination you find in people. I enjoy playing Cricket (don't worry if you don't know what that is), love cooking and recently started to get into photography, which has definitely been fun whilst my wife and I have been travelling for the past year. I decided to take a break from work, to go off and explore some of the world with my wife while we have the opportunity and to enjoy while we're relatively 'young'.

My wife and I were both born and grew up in England, but we are Indian. Our families are from the north of India (Punjab), and my side of the family also lived in Africa (Uganda and Kenya) before they moved to England.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Over the last year, my wife and I have stayed in many budget hotels, lots of hostels, and a few homestays (although most of the 'homestays' on Airbnb aren't actually homestays which is really disappointing). So we decided to sign up to Couchsurfing to see if we'd be able to find something more authentic and be able to learn more about the culture and vibe of a place.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
I'm not really a music buff, but I do enjoy listening to a wide range of music from hip hop, rnb, rap, pop, dance and even a bit of the tame end of the rock or techno genre. I also enjoy bhangra music - which Indian doesn't?

Movies
Action and adventure are my favourite - the Marvel movies, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, Apocalypto. I also do enjoy thrillers - Se7en, Identity, Along Came a Spider, The Butterfly Effect etc. And then there's a bunch of other stuff too, of which the one movie that really comes to mind is Intouchables - if you know, you know! I should say my wife is a huge Star Wars fan, so please don't point out all the plot holes in it to her, as she doesn't like it :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Definitely has to be taking a sabbatical from work and dropping everything in England, packing a backpack and heading out to explore as much of the world as I can with my wife. So far we've travelled through Asia, a little bit of the Pacific and now we're heading to South America. So far we've been travelling for 13 months and been through 21 countries.

Teach, Learn, Share

There's not much use of my profession when it comes to travelling, unless a host wants to know all about the consulting lifestyle, so when it comes to teaching, I leave that to my wife since she's the teacher :) But we're more than happy to share our experiences so far, but with couchsurfing (as with all of our travels), we want to learn - learn as much as we can about a place, the people, the history, the culture, the food, and everything else that we can. If we can take away one thing from each place we visit, we'd be happy travellers.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I guess the most valuable thing that I can share with my hosts is my experiences and culture, as well as some great tips and tricks when travelling to some of the countries we've been to. Like the best time to visit the Taj Mahal, why to go to Edzna instead of Chichen Itza, where the world's most accessible active volcano is, and how to get 8 official stamps in your passport in one day - yep, that's 4 border crossings!
