About Me

I'm Amanda, on paper, a bachelor in Psychology... but in my heart, I'm a wanderer, always excited for meeting new people, different places and learning something new..

I consider myself a very spontaneous and positive person. I am easy to handle, friendly and have a good sense of humor.

I lived in Edinburgh from 2010 to 2015. I moved there after finishing my studies in order to stay for an undefined period of time working, learning English, travelling (as much as I could) and studying a little bit.

However, after 3 years in Edinburgh I started to travel more and more, and everytime I was leaving I was doing it for longer periods of time... I went to do work-away in France during the spring time, went to work to California two summers, travelled around the US, Mexico and Cuba... and yes, I was the happiest person in the whole world! :)

That's when I realised that my time in Edinburgh was coming to an end.
I decided to do a TEFL course and teach English somewhere in the world.
After applying to jobs in different countries, I got a job as English and Spanish teacher in Istanbul, Turkey.

I lived in Istanbul fr 6 months, loved the food, the people and the stunning places around Turkey; but once my contract ended I decided to move to Vietnam with my boyfriend.

We started in Ho Chi Mihn, travelled a little bit around the South of Vietnam, bouth a scooter and started travelling to the North towards Hanoi. It took us a month, we slept in beaches, hostels, couchsurfers places; swam in the most beautiful beache; ate the best street food; met the kindest and warmest people; we fall in love of Vietnam and its people.

We lived and taught in Vietnam for a year, then we moved to the Canary Islands where we have lived for 4 years.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Unfortunately, I can't host at the moment. We're travelling and volunteering so we are actually the ones looking for a place to stay at the moment hehe

I love meeting new people and be hosted by couch surfers when possible while I travel, as I think is the best way of getting to know new places.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first experiences surfing were in the south of France, back in January 2010 when I went with my very good friend Miguel to an Amanda Palmer gig. Since then we tried to couchsurf in all our trips throughout England and Europe, mostly when we did an Interrail trip in Eastern Europe.

Also, in the 3+ years that I lived with my best friend in Edinburgh, we hosted travellers as much as our busy schedules allowed us. We used to share a Couchsurfing profile: https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/1709437/profile

I opened a new account when I moved to Istanbul, as we thought that it would be the best idea as we would live adventures on our own... It's crazy but it kinda felt like a divorce :( but we are leaving the shared one open, as we are confident that we'll travel together again soon.

So far I've used my new account to travel around Turkey, Vietnam, Thailand and soon... Kuala Lumpur, Japan and Hong Kong :)

Music, Movies, and Books

In music I have a wide taste, being able to enjoy Muse, Emilie Autumn, Snow Patrol, Travis, Ben Howard, Munford and Sons, classical music, movies soundtracks, Björk, Metallica or Lady Gaga and Taylow Swift.

My favourite movies are 'Amèlie' and 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind', but I also love Big Fish, Searching for Sugarman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Fight Club, Trainspotting, the Harry Potter series, The Hobbit, Gone Girl, etc. Ah! Studio Ghibli is awesome too! :)

Regarding TV shows, I've been quite hooked with Dexter, True Blood, Doctor Who and Torchwood, loving other old shows as X-Files and Lost... and geekery of all sorts in general.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Seeing a black bear at Yellowstone national park when looking for a shoe that was previously stolen by a coyote the night before.

- Angels landing hike... best hike ever! I will always remember that view...

- Travelling from Saigon to Hanoi with a motorbike, meeting the most wonderful people, eating the tastiest dishes and swimming in the most beautiful beaches.

- Spending 10 days meditating in a temple in the north of Thailand

Teach, Learn, Share

I can offer my conversation, I've got the skill to talk for hours about anything and everything at the same time...

I can also try to be inventive in the kitchen... I can show you how to cook a yummy dish with the few leftovers in your fridge... very useful when you are travelling!
