Hey, I'm Amanda! I'm from Vancouver Island on the West Coast of Canada. Typical to anyone from this part of the world, I love to get outside for hikes and exploring. I've taught myself to surf in the cold water here, and love dancing on a surfboard when I get the chance. I'm positive thinking and friendly. Usually I enjoy quiet nights in, but do enjoy going for a fun night out or having a small gathering of friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've enjoyed traveling and staying in hostels or Airbnb's in the past. But sometimes I feel like I miss out a bit on the local culture this way. I'm looking forward to meeting more people through Couchsurfing, and also connecting with other travelers at Couchsurfing community events.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy listening to bands like Mumford & Sons and the Lumineers. There's something about the twangy folk/rock tunes that I can't resist.

One of my favourite movies is Beginners. It's a more "real" portrayal of romance and relationships. I also like comedic shows like Parks & Recreation. And I'll never get tired of watching the Canadian travel duo Scott and Justin, of Departures (a must watch series for travelers I think).

I always like to have a book on the go. Usually my preference is fiction in a unique setting/culture, like the Kite Runner.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking up one of the peaks in Snowdonia National Park in Wales (we could see Snowdon from the top). I wasn't in great shape for it, but went with a nice crew of people and we helped each other out on the way up. I was really out of my comfort zone doing a bit of scrambling near the top of the peak. It was pretty awesome!

I love to learn about different ways of life, places, and cultures. Cooking is a big passion of mine. I really enjoy learning new recipes and trying different ingredients.
