ABOUT ME

Hi! I am Amanda from Melbourne. My interests are music, yoga, dancing, nature, cooking and animals. I am a social worker, working with youth (12-21 years old) who have problems with alcohol, drugs and crime. I like having time away from my normal life to learn more about the world and myself.

I like having close connections with people, deep conversations and learning about other's perspectives and ways of living.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to get involved in the activities organised by the CS groups of the cities I visit... as well as using couch surfing as a fabulous way to find out about exciting/new things happening in the cities I live in.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE:

I made a very special friend with the first person I couch surfed with in Barcelona. Was a fantastic 'first time' for both of us- we had some great conversations, lots of laughs and I was OVERWHELMED by his kindness. I have since visited him in Mexico and we keep in touch.

I also stayed with a family in Buenos Aires in 2009 which was a wonderful experience of the way a local family live. When living in Barcelona in 2008 for 3 months I used couch surfing to meet up with locals and other 'surfers' to see different parts of a city or go to a local party or festival.

I have not hosted as have typically lived in share houses without spare bedrooms. I have many friends from across the world who come to visit and staying with me, and have often showed other people around my city, Melbourne.

I have worked for two weeks at an animal refuge in Bolivia. It was difficult, challenging but rewarding and fascinating!
