About Me

CURRENT MISSION

balancing the daily grind, which the home office makes me do to satisfy my immigration status, with love and beautiful, art and exploration.

ABOUT ME

Came here from Montreal a few years ago, with regular returns to Toronto, but it seems that the Home Office might let me stay in the uk for a whole and make a living facilitating disabled children and adults to have more autonomy.

PHILOSOPHY

'I will not be just a tourist in a world of images' - Anais Nin

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been lucky recently to make friends with folks who've connected themselves through Couchsurfers, and have had a few kip down on the couch though not directly through here. I try to be active in group activities when I can and count many ppl i've met at surfer socials as good friends. These days, I live in a small room in a tiny flat and can't host, but i hope to change that someday.

I am focusing more on my new profession than other things, to get better at it, but am committed to working and volunteering my time towards helping people survive this world whilst trying to create a better one. And in the midst of it all, i need to make time for being outdoors, connecting with people, connecting with myself.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Throughout my life I'd always try to help folks find a place to stay when they need it, and appreciate the same myself. I've lived in a few collective houses that have had people and animals spilling out and i really appreciate people's balconies, couches or spare rooms.

I suppose in North America had a large enough network of friends and comrades that I could always find a place to stay and, if i couldn't host someone myself, I could find someone who could.

I only have learned about couch surfers through friends recently, but it is a great idea and seems like a good way to meet folks beyond one's own immediate circles.

Interests

The world really, and the people in it. Popular science (in a different universe, i'd be a theoretical physicist, i think, but here i just read XKCD and pretend that i get all the jokes). Social and environmental justice. Music and arts of all sorts

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
What's been playing in my lately when I am home: The Coup, MIA, Death Grips,

In my earbuds when I'm on the train: Springsteen, Tracy Chapman, The Chilies, Led Zeppelin, Queen.

The best show I've seen of late: Bo Ningen.

Show I've been saddest to miss: Sleafor Mods (missed 'em twice)

BOOKS:
Most science-fiction. Fiction standards include China Mieville, Ursula K Le Guinn, Hanif Kureishi, Zadie Smith. I'm currently reading something called "Jericho", set in the late 50's at a nuclear disarmament camp.

Chris Cass's "Towards Collective Liberation" was pretty good, and I am looking forward to reading Harsha Walia's "Undoing Border Imperialism"

MOIVES
Frank was interesting. Mars Attacks always makes me giggle. Riots Reframed was a great doc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are amazing things to see every day. And frankly, i think both closing one eyes to the day, and pulling oneself out of bed in the morning can be amazing deeds

Teach, Learn, Share

I dunno. I know a bit about social justice stuff, i guess. I'm an ok vegan cook/baker, and i've helped people to learn to swim a bit. i'm a trained massage therapist and like digging around in the dirt or hammering in a nail.

My profession involves helping people with neurological "disorder" to learn to have better control over their lives, largely through mobility.

In brief, i learn from folks all the time. Would love more practical skills like metalwork someday, though.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As i said above
