About Me
Hi I'm Amani, I live in Leeds, UK. I work in sustainability and I run dance parties.
I am a friendly guy. I love community and surrounding myself with lovely people. I enjoy sharing food and jokes, giving and receiving. I love to cook for my friends and volunteer at a community food waste cafe - making meals out of leftover food.
I studied philosophy at university and some people comment that I am quite philosophical. I personally think that looking deeply into our experiences is a natural thing for people to do, and I find life and lived experience perplexing and strange. Mainly I really like exploring and learning about anything I can. I will always ask you questions about what you know, whatever it is.
Despite this introverted side, I am quite a do-er. I enjoy working manually and practically making a difference. I really enjoy the ideas of permaculture and want to learn more in particular about gardening in general. I am inspired by food and nature and am interesting in living more harmoniously with both than I currently do, and I'm really keen to learn.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I mainly would like to find places to stay for cheap. I think there's something about couchsurfing in that you can meet locals who can give you insight into the city they live in. I know that I would be able to show people round where I lived and give them a really interesting view of the city.
Interests
I know quite a lot about philosophy. It's a massive subject though, so don't expect me to know your favourite philosopher!
I know a little bit about permaculture after volunteering on Saturdays at a permaculture forest farm. I have experience with weeding, grafting trees, picking fruit and berries to make jam with, land terra-forming, building fences etc. All odd jobs. I volunteered with a food co-op called Green Action for two years and have been involved in running the shop, and the various activities we do, like apple pressing, chutney making, work on the allotment etc.
I am an amateur photographer and have been practising for 2-3 years. I mainly like to take pictures of people, and I will be carrying my dslr with me on my travels.
I have run 3 charity events this summer, one a series of talks and presentations with a musical performance, the other two exhibitions and dance parties. I was involved with everything from making the posters, marketing, public speaking, budgeting etc.
