One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, moving out to Europe on my own would be a big thing. I sold all my posessions in Toronto, and came over with clothes and cds to be with my partner in crime, Grant. Experiencing Cuba was pretty amazing too, and I'll be making my second trip over very soon!

Teach, Learn, Share

alright...imparting my cs widsom onto fledgling surfers...where to start?

First off, if you are surfing in a major city (Amsterdam, Paris, London, etc), you should be sending out your requests at LEAST 2-3 weeks in advance of your stay. I've rarely been able to host people on less than 2 weeks notice, usually because I've already said yes to someone else.

Another tip...try and avoid copying and pasting the same message to every host in the city you want to surf in. We can tell, and it means we're more likely to say YES to the person that's put some effort into reading our profile and put some effort into their message.

Remember that while hosts don't expect payment for helping out, there is some cost that we incur (like the water you use, the toilet paper, food, etc) and that can add up if you host a lot. Bringing a token of appreciation (an inexpensive something from where you're from, where you've travelled, something you've made) always comes as a welcome surprise and it's a nice way of saying thank you to new friends and a way that hosts can remember their surfers.
