ABOUT ME

Wow "all about you" could be a pretty lengthy description. I will just describe two things/decisions in my life that many people find interesting.

First is that I was born in China and moved to the U.S. at age 11. I am now 22 years old, so I have spent exactly half my life in China and half in America. I therefore consider myself completely bicultural and bilingual. And yes, starting school without understanding English was tough, especially at the beginning of middle school when kids are getting hormonal and kind of mean. But honestly, I'm pretty grateful I had the opportunity to understand what "challenge" and "hardship" meant at a reasonably early age.

Second is that I am currently taking a sabbatical year from my studies of medicine in the U.S. to live in Madrid as an English teacher. Not a conventional step for a future doctor, I know. My current job is unfulfilling, and I miss science immensely. But the weekend life and opportunities to travel make up for it. I just wanted to learn interesting things and get to know interesting people before dedicating the rest of my life to the malignancies of the human body.

PHILOSOPHY

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I believe everyone you meet can teach you something of value, even the people you dislike or even disrepect. With that in mind, I want to learn from everyone around me.

I've come to realize that traveling is less about seeing the place and more about opening myself up to all kinds of possibilities. Couchsurfing fits into that newfound travel philosophy.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

In Peru's Macchu Picchu, my friends and I got chased by some llamas. I peeked into their barn and may have upset them, and the next thing I knew they were running after us. For the first 5 seconds or so, it was terrifying. But after those 5 seconds, it became extremely funny. And everything was caught on tape, so I get to relive the "llama attack" whenever I want.

Mmm let's see what I can offer... Given my background, I have reflected into the differences between the Chinese and American cultures and would gladly share my perspectives. I am also a Hawaiian hula dancer. I'm not terribly advanced, but I learned from a Grammy-winning kumu (hula teacher) and I can guarantee that what I show you is more genuine and traditional than the touristy shows. Also I am a young scientist and have been working on cancer research for three years in college. Again, nothing Nobel-prize winning, but definitely significant.

I guess I just want to learn about people. My studies and research have occupied a lot of my time in the past few years, so I really just want to get some different perspectives on how people live and what makes them happy.
