About Me

CURRENT MISSION

recognizing our interconnectedness

ABOUT ME

Lover of God and people. Former camp program director, returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Tanzania, 06-08), South Bronx resident, teacher. I strive to be genuine, creative and to continue to discover beauty in the people and things around me.

PHILOSOPHY

Be genuine, be loving, be critical, seek to know the truth.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

** Currently not hosting, as I'm presently foster parenting in my home**

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As a host, sometimes I'm busy with school, and its just a friendly stay with a meal or conversation. When possible, I love discovering adventures with folks. Out of towners spur me on to look for the beauty in the familiar, such as recently discovering my rooftop in the rain or the cafe down the street. Likewise as a traveler, I love those opportunities to stumble into the places and things that my host is passionate about. (I'm not much of a partier.)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My roommates and I have hosted a number of CSers in our apartment over the years. A few times this meant roaming the city together when I had the time... I enjoy searching out adventures. Many of the guests have participated in cooking a meal together here and eating on the roof, which is also great. I surfed once with a host while in Nicaragua.

Interests

Hiking, climbing, biking, swing dance (learning Bachata and Salsa), coffee, lion-prints, science, games (of many sorts... especially inventing new ones).

If writing to request a couch, please include the words "TUPO PAMOJA" in the subject line so that I know you've read my profile. It's most rewarding to host/spend time with people who have a shared interest, or are interested in sharing something (culture, skill, experience, etc.). ("Tupo pamoja" means "we are together" in Swahili.)

Music, Movies, and Books

Education and Capitalism, The Battle for Justice in Palestine, any Heymarket book, Loaves and Fishes (Dorothy Day), The New Jim Crow (Michelle Alexander); Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne; With Justice for All (John Perkins)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once flipped my car off the highway in a snow storm.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach/Share: I'm experimenting in linolium prints: can bring some as gifts, or even teach how (I'm a beginner!). I'm happy to converse on issues related to education. I can take folks over to a great urban farm in the neighborhood and introduce you to the chickens. I have an extra bike at the moment and can take you to the Hudson greenway.

To Learn: I'm always interested in improving on my Spanish, bike maintenance, Bachata and Salsa... I'd love to learn about the history and local issues affecting the area you're from.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Lino-Prints, ukulele (I'm just a beginner! But, it travels well)

Countries I’ve Visited

Cuba, France, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Spain, Zimbabwe

Countries I’ve Lived In

Luxembourg, Tanzania, United Kingdom, United States
