Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting visitors to my city and giving them something different from the guidebooks, something a little off the usual path. Also, the hospitality I have experienced in my travels has been unreal. People are so willing to open their homes and their hearts to someone from the other side of the planet, and the enthusiasm I've seen for life and learning is infectious. I want so much more of that.

Music, Movies, and Books

Trashy historical fiction is a guilty pleasure of mine. I love Dickinson, Plath, and Mary Oliver. I loved Middlesex, Anna Karenina, The Grapes of Wrath, and Wuthering Heights.

I love film, and there are movies I hold close and could watch again anytime, anywhere, but I tend these days to pick up and abandon television shows constantly, with the exception of Game of Thrones, of course.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watched the sun rise from the Charles Bridge in Prague.

Galloped recklessly on horseback through the fields of my youth.

Made a hasty retreat back to car in Yellowstone, Wyoming.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to just help a bit around the house. If I see the dishes need washing, I'll take care of it. That kind of thing. Above all, I am very quiet when left to my own devices, and keep my belongings close to me.
