About Me

Hi! Nice to meet you, my name is Amber, an 18 year old girl from The Netherlands whose life revolves around creating music. After this summer I am taking a gap year which I will use to prepare myself for the Rockacademy to study songwriting and to travel a bit. Currently the plan is to go to Thailand, but it can also be just Europe when I return from my Interrailing trip with friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing because it appears to be a great way to meet locals and get to know a culture way better than when you would stay in the touristic areas.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to all kinds of music but in my most recent history on Spotify you will find Lianne la Havas, First Aid Kit, Tame Impala, Angus & Julia Stone and other folksy and country-like music like The Civil Wars, John Paul White the music from Nashville the tv show (whoops guilty pleasure).

I am actually more of a series kind of girl, and do not watch a lot of movies, but you can definitely talk to me for an entire evening about Game of Thrones, Orphan Black or Sense8. When I watch movies it will probably be a very dramatic one (because I always cry during movies, as far as I can remember), or a fantasy movie, which leads us to books.

The kind of fiction books I read are mostly high fantasy. For example: the Wheel of Time and A Song of Ice and Fire. Sometimes I also read kind of confusing psychological fiction, but I have to be in the mood for it. I also enjoyed reading parts of Hamlet at school, so maybe I will continue with Shakespeares literature in the future. If we talk about non-fiction books, you will mostly find books about hiking in the mountains, mythology and spirituality. Currently I am reading Michael Newtons's book Journey of Souls which is very interesting.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Actually two of the most amazing things I have done concerning travel is hiking in the Alps in Austria with my school in 2016 for five days and hiking/climbing the southern part of the GR20 on Corsica a few weeks ago with my dad. The trail was tough, (read: extremely tough) but was worth it because of the splendid views and amazing people we met on the trail.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can always teach you something about music, let it be guitar, playing flute or singing. Well, if you get me started about music I can go on for hours actually.

What I want to learn from my travels is to be able to be on my own, because I actually always surround myself with family in friends. I want to find out what it is like to meet new people and learn about other cultures without having the comforts of home around me and to use my experiences as inspiration for future music.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share funny stories about clumsy things I did, and then I would probably laugh at myself. Also, music and other stories, thoughts about life and what comes after life, so quite some phylosophical discussions, but I can also share a laugh and drink wine with you (another great passion in my life). I actually just like to talk and laugh and share my thoughts on anything, which is the best way to get to know one another I think!
