I grew up in South Dakota but I've lived in a bunch of different states in the US: Minnesota, Alabama, Ohio and now, California. I also studied for several months in the Baltimore/DC area.

I completed my Bachelors Degree at University of Alabama at Birmingham in photography. I have an MFA in Photography + Integrated Media from Ohio University.

Currently, I work at a non-profit community art center and printmaking studio the Bay Area. I love living in California. I spend most of my time hanging out with friends, going to performances (theater, ballet, fine art), lectures, museums. Most of my friends are in tech, I enjoy the combination of tech + art and seek out experiences that involve that union.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

From 2007 to 2012, I used Couchsurfing a lot more. I hosted and traveled but somewhere along the line I kind of switched to using hostels and AirBnb and doing more of a transaction. I'm on couchsurfing now because I'm going to be traveling to Denmark in May. I don't have much direction on this trip-- I'm not visiting for family or friends just kinda exploring. My friend, Lindsey joined my trip.

I do know a few people in Copenhagen but one is going out to visit his partner and other is finishing her thesis.

Interests

Geez, I feel like I have a lot of interests. I like to write in the mornings, I go on long walks with my dog. I like to explore, cook, read, look at art, think about photography. I mean, I guess a lot of people say those things...

I spend more money on books and cultural events than clothes. I eat mostly fish and some chicken, animals without eyelashes.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm into Science Fiction and movies that are from a unique perspective.

I used seek music out more. The "largish" last concert I went to was Interpol. Though I've been to the opera twice this year. And even though it is totally cheesy, I've gone to a couple musicals and several comical drag performances in San Francisco. I enjoy Hurray for the Riff Raff, Angel Olsen, Young Widows...

Books: They things they carried, difficult women, almost anything written by Rebecca Solnit. I recently read How Should A Person Be by Sheila Heti and it was quite good, though it's a pretty terrible name for a book.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know about amazing but I am apparently pretty good at moving to new places and building a life "from scratch."

I've done it--- six times now where I have moved to a new town without knowing more than a few people, with maybe a car load of stuff- maybe just a suitcase and having create a way for myself. Twice I've moved without having a place to live lined up. It's an interesting experience to shed your belongings and just go with the next adventure with no intension to return to what was your previous home.
