About Me
Hey everybody! I’m Ambre, born and raised in France near Poitiers. After finishing high-school I went on a WHV in Australia for one and a half year to learn English and travel. Then I moved to Maastricht for my bachelor studies. Started with Peace and Conflict studies but actually fell back in love with the life sciences. Would love to work either in science communication, global health and humanitarian projects or go toward biomedical sciences. On the side I worked in a cafe where I learnt to be a barista which I really enjoyed. This is where I started to learn Greek as, even tho I was in the Netherlands, I had a Greek boss, some Greek colleagues and so many Greek customers!
Before continuing my studies I wanted to take another break so I’m on the road again :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I lived in Maastricht my roommate was on Couchsurfing so we (our 5 people household) regularly hosted travellers and I had so many great experience and memory with the people that visited! I tried so many news dishes, drinks, we had parties, our garden became a camping when backpackers and incoming students looking for housing would all end up in our house in late August… I love staying at hostels when I travel as well but Couchsurfing is also a great way to experience the places you’re in by connecting with people who live there! So I can’t wait to be the guest this time :)
Music, Movies, and Books
Some of my favourites bands are Cage the Elephant, Giant Rooks, AnnenMayKantereit, Alt-J, NOFX, The Shins, Milky Chance…
I didn’t use to be a big movie enthusiast but I went quite a bit to the cinema lately and especially enjoyed Past Lives and Anatomy of a fall! Also really like Wes Anderson, that I discovered through my roommate as he made three big poster from his movies for our living room!
Unfortunately university gave us so much to read that I put aside a little reading for pleasure but I’m trying to read some classic such as Slaughterhouse Five. I love a good thriller tho so suggestion welcome! Long before his book were adapted to series, I was quite into Harlan Coben. I really enjoyed the adaptation of Gone for Good
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I don’t quite know if it fits under the “amazing category” but ask me about the time where I was a tractor driver in Australia…
Teach, Learn, Share
In the shared flat that I lived in during my studies we all were great cooks and food enthusiast so I’m always looking forward to cook with people, share recipes and little tricks to make the most delicious dishes
I also love to hear travel stories and share travel tips, from my own countries or the ones I lived in/visited
At the moment I’m trying to really better my Greek and eventually dig up my Spanish that I put aside for some time now so I welcome anyone willing to help me practice!
I played the violin for 10 years and I really miss playing music so I can help out someone starting but I also crave some live music sessions
What I Can Share with Hosts
As stated above, would love to cook with or for my hosts, have a drink and discuss the different paths of life, travel experiences, languages…
