ABOUT ME

I am a mom, who is always reading something new, and loves to create (I knit, sew, make chainmail, jewelry, and anything else that catches my interest at any given time). I love the outdoors, and exploring new places, although I have not been gifted with anything resembling a sense of direction (GPS device helps with that... want to go geocaching?) I love to find reasons, both silly and serious to celebrate (talk like a pirate day...pi day.. towel day... wonderful weirdos day...) especially if it involves an excuse to dress in costume. I am on the board of directors at our local women's crisis center, and have in the past enjoyed some stage acting.

I help to moderate a couple of online forums including a support forum for adults with Asperger's Syndrome and their partners, family and friends. I have also given a seminar to people with AS about sexuality and relationships and really enjoyed the experience

Although I am opinionated when it comes to many things, I am not closed minded, those are two different things. If you differ in opinion on any issue, I'd love to hear how you came to your belief and understanding of the topic. Open minded, respectful discussion can only lead to learning. It may not lead either party to change their minds and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but if done properly will lead each of us to a better understanding of the other.

I dream of learning as much as I can learn and seeing as much as I can see of the world in the time I am given and with the resources at my disposal

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far I have participated by meeting up with people at gatherings during my travels and meeting people for a drink when they are passing through my hometown. I hope that I will be able to host in the future though it is a little difficult right now.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couch surfed a few times, mostly staying with friends or relatives that I already knew quite well, or people who they linked me up with. In the past couple of years I have met with a few people from online communities and have stayed with one of them which was a lot of fun.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is a difficult one to answer, I try to expose myself to a very wide variety of things in each of these categories. My favourites change regularly depending on what is going on in my mind and how I am feeling.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am not sure that I have really done anything that would be considered amazing... however I see and experience amazing things every day... looking closely at a leaf, smelling a tree, watching how a spider walks, feeding a chipmunk out of my hand, laying on the ground and looking out at the stars thinking about what they really are, looking down out of a plane, examining the inner workings of an old watch, watching a storm roll in, seeing one of my children discover something new for the first time, looking at cells in a microscope... there is no end to the amazing things I can list.

I just remembered one thing that probably qualifies. One day, while walking in Portland, Oregon, my friend and I saw both Elvis, and Jesus in the same day.

Teach, Learn, Share

I make chainmail jewelry, knit and crochet and wouldn't mind teaching these things.

I've been practicing meditation and breathing excersises since I was 8 and have found these things very useful in helping me through a variety of situations. I would enjoy teaching these things.

I have bits of knowledge about a wide variety of subjects and am interested in learning more things than I currently know exist.

To learn? I am interested in learning so many things it is difficult to figure out what to list. Languages would be a big one, I would like to improve my understanding of spanish and learn to speak it, and I would like to regain my ability to speak french which I have lost through lack of practice. I'd also like to learn to play guitar and... well... nearly anything you could teach, I would be interested. I am a collector of knowledge both useful and otherwise.
