ABOUT ME

I just asked my brother to use one noun to describe what I was and he said "vagabond." since I have had more addresses than I have years out of high school (coming up on 20!), I can understand why he might think that. I prefer to see myself as an adventurous person who likes to experience the opportunities that are placed in front of me. I was born and raised in Ann Arbor, but have lived in Wyoming, Georgia, Missouri, and most recently Alaska. I make my living mainly teaching/working with kids and waiting tables (but only when I have to!) I am certified in Elementary Education and have an interest in working with organizations and programs that provide alternative educational experiences.
I am single. I would like to have my own or adopt children one day.

PHILOSOPHY

I have never spent the time to develop a concise personal philosophy, but I guess I can throw some things out there off the top of my head.

I believe it's important to have a balanced amount of ambition in life. I get excited about ideas and interested in planning for the future, while having enough sense to relax and enjoy today. I do believe in God. I do believe we are here for specific reasons, and it's up to us to open our eyes and figure out what those reasons are. I look for my purposes through other people. I know I'm hear to help people - mainly children.

I like to be as open as possible, but I'm learning that I also need to be careful.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None officially from this site, but I have been a long-time couch-sleeper. I have spent many nights on couches of friends and family over the years. Being the single friend with no kids means that I am the one to go to everyone else's homes and visit everyone else around the country.

I lived on Alaska's North Slope, 330 miles north of the Arctic Circle. I taught Native Inupiat Eskimos.

I am a certified Firearms Instructor. Don't worry, I do not travel with firearms and I am in no way a "gun nut."
I have taught and lived in a remote Eskimo village in the Arctic. I learned quite a bit about their culture and life, not to mention the effects that global warming is having on their lives today.
I am interested in learning about other cultures, photography, building my own home, ...just about anything and everything.
