About Me

Born in DC, raised in VA. I've lived here all my life. Went to VCU to earn my BA in English in 2009. I graduated in 2013. Then I went to grad school right after to recieve an MIS for Film and Language, but dropped out after a year. I've worked in food service since I was 16, but I'm looking to transition out and do something different with my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to travel the world. I'd like to meet more people. I'd like to pick up more skills and collaborate with folks from all over. Introduce me to new ideas and new ways of doing things. I'll laugh through the pain.

Interests

Movies, music, art, science and technology, and the list goes on. I'm listening to Peruvian punk while writing this! I love researching and planning! I'm not limited by my interests I like to explore all things to no end. Sucker for cooking shows, hiking, plants, motorcycles, Jazz, and video games.

Music, Movies, and Books

The music of my parent's origin, Morocco and Peru, is some of my favorite, but I also love American Punk, Jazz, Trap music, Reggae, Soundtracks, I'm all over the place. I'm an old head, but I like new, too. Anything by Chris Marker is amazing, the man's work fascinates me, but I'm also a fan of classic 80s and 90s flicks. Beverly Hills Cop, Rush Hour, Independence Day, and so on. The Revenant was great, also loved Birdman. Anything by Junot Diaz, I like to read philosophy essays (i.e. Nietzsche and Camus).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can't lie, I've been a shy boy most of my life. I guess if I get to travel than that. I started my own band, didn't get very far, but I'm proud I did it. I also got through college in 4 years despite changing my major 3 times and changing universities twice.

Teach, Learn, Share

Paolo Friere, if you don't know him, look him up. Everyone is teacher-student, curiculuums are for conformity not for enlightenment. A comfortable environment to share ideas and challenge each other. Know thyself is the first rule of philosophy and I believe it to be the most essential part of learning. Getting to know the individual a is a pathway to learning about the collective and so on. I want to be a part of a community of innovators.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My experiences in life. Ask me anything, I'm an open book, from sex to the after-life, I'm open to discussion and challenges. I know a lot about film theory, literary analysis, cooking, Richmond history, US politics, photography, various social media, and so on. Also, I can teach you English, if you want to learn.
