ABOUT ME

I am Ammar and I come from the cultural capital of Pakistan, Lahore. By profession, I am a building engineer. I went to Sweden in august 2009 to pursue masters in structural engineering at the Chalmers university of technology in Gothenburg. I stayed in Sweden for two years (2009 - 2011). At present, I am working as Design Engineer (Structures/Infrastructure) at the DHA Lahore.

Before going to Sweden, I had a desire to travel around europe, meet the people and get to know about their cultures and traditions. My nearly two year stay in sweden provided me with a great opportunity to meet people from all parts of the globe. The place where I lived in sweden was a student hostel reserved primarily for european exchange students who come to sweden for their erasmus program. We had a very international, multicultural environment in our corridor where we all lived as a family. We shared a kitchen where we cooked, ate, partied and watched movies together.

During my stay in sweden, I made friends from virtually all parts of the world. I am extremely sociable and love to make new friends. I plan to go to the US soon for my PhD. Till then I am looking forward to travelling around Asia and hosting people from all over the world who wish to explore my beautiful country.

My hobbies include listening to music and photography. In music, I like soft rock, acoustic unplugged and sometimes hard rock. My favourite bands are ACDC, nirvana and guns n roses. From Pakistan I listen to a variety of bands like strings, the band call, EP, jal, noori and Atif Aslam. I like photography and as soon as I collect some money I'll buy a professional camera. Right now I am using sony w55 Cybershot.

I also watch alot of movies. As I mentioned earlier, in our kitchen in Sweden, we all watched movies together and it was almost our daily routine :)In movies, I prefer true stories or the ones close to reality. Some of my favourites include the shawshank redemption, the kite runner, rails and ties, pursuit of happiness etc.

I am very fond of eating. Apart from eating I like cooking as well. My mom is my cooking teacher and she herself is exceptional in cooking. I like every kind of food but my favourites are desi (pakistani), italian, mexican and chinese. The dish I rejoice in eating is the chicken biryani (special rice made together with chicken). My city is the most popular city in the country with regard to food. The city offers every kind of food, be it desi or english, chinese or thai, italian or mexican, in short it is a paradise for food lovers.

As for my personality traits I think I am extremely caring, polite, respectful, friendly and sociable. I am fun loving and try to initiate events which give everyone an opportunity to be happy. I believe that 'life is too short to wake up in the morning with regret'. I believe that 'we should love the people who treat us right, forget about the ones who dont and believe that everything happens for a reason. If we get a chance we should take it. If it changes our lives, let it. We should laugh when we can, apologize when we should and let go what we cant change. We should love all and forgive quickly. Life is too short to be unhappy'.

Interests

There is alot I want to do, and there is alot I want to achieve. I find myself as a nonentity in this world, yet I have big dreams and I love to strive hard to achieve my ambitions. I am primarily interested in spreading happiness, no one should suffer. I want to be a philanthropist, a social worker, working for eradicating poverty, illiteracy, hunger, violence and suffering.

I am also interested in designing landmark structures on the face of the earth. I have a great interest in music and photography.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am not a very good swimmer and the scariest thing that ever happened to me was in Sweden when my friends pushed me off the deck into the North Sea. The sea was deep and my feet didn't touch the bottom. Although my friends, who were expert swimmers, also jumped and took care of me but still those were some frightening moments.
