About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To settle myself in the world by seeing how others have done it: to travel and absorb!

ABOUT ME

I am a whimsical and curious soon-to-be college graduate, fascinated by different people and places. Unsure of what to do when I finish school, I am galavanting though Europe as I wrap up my studies, hoping to come to some sort of conclusions about where I want to be and what I want to do in the next couple of years. I kind of want to bring about world peace by means of Anthropology--people is people everywhere, and if that were understood, we should all be able to get along!--but I am trying to be realistic.

I am also constantly looking for new experiences. I tend to think in terms of my life as a story, and I often make decisions based on what would make it more interesting (without taking stupid risks). I am a planner and a worrier, but also fairly spontaneous and very good at living the present. I have very few regrets, though I make lots of mistakes, and I am usually positive in the face of adversity, though I have experienced my share of darker moments as well.

If you've read this far, what I am about to say probably doesn't apply to you, BUT: I will not answer any messages that aren't addressed specifically to me. I don't care how charming you find my profile picture or how "nice" you think it would be to meet since we happen to be in the same city--I DO care about what you think we have in common and how our interests overlap. OK? Couch-surfing is an awesome networking tool; please don't abuse the system!

PHILOSOPHY

"My body, my trip." I believe that everyone should be able to live their lives however they see fit, as long as the lifestyle does not impose negatively on other people. Another catch-phrase I could borrow is "Do no harm."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am new to couchsurfing, but I can't wait to get into it. Not only do I believe that cross-cultural exposure is critical in our age of hyper-globalization, but I also really enjoy meeting and developing relationships with people from all kinds of backgrounds. Since I am traveling at the moment, I cannot offer a couch, but I would love to connect over coffee or drinks or group activities.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I joined couch surfing while in Berlin, where I went to some great group activities and met up for drinks. Now I'm in Paris, doing more of the same and loving it. I haven't actually been in need of a couch since joining, and am unable to host, but I hope to get into that side of things eventually...

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm willing to give (almost) anything a try, but I have a special fondness for "Stage Beauty" with Billy Crudup and Claire Danes and Ray Bradbury's "Farenheit 451."

Favorite bands at the moment include Seeed and Tunng, maybe it's the superfluity of letters that attracts me. Past favs include: ABBA, the BeeGees, Blondie, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Dire Straits, the Doors, Elliott Smtih, Kaiser Chiefs, K'Naan, Lily Allen, Pink Martini, Pulp, Regina Spektor, RHCP, Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars, the White Stripes...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It really depends on your definition of amazing, doesn't it? When I was staying in a rural northwestern province of South Africa as part of a study abroad program, I saw this incredible double rainbow: two strong, fully-formed rainbows arching over the countryside. It was unbelievably beautiful, and my classmates and I couldn't pry our eyes away. The locals thought we were so funny for making a big deal about such a commonplace thing. Amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Capoeira--I have been training for over a year. I can tell you about the basics of movement and philosophy, but I also want to learn more.

Cooking--Though the real art is in improvisation, I am always looking for recipes!

I REALLY WANT TO LEARN HOW TO OPEN A BOTTLE WITHOUT AN OPENER--on a table, with a lighter, etc. People have tried and failed in the past to teach me, but I am determined to master this skill!
