About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I want to explore the country I have been living in for 28 years, but still know nothing about
ABOUT ME
My Name is Amrik, I am from a small village in Derbyshire, UK, when I was 23 I moved to Japan for 4 years to be an EFL teacher (and yes, I do speak a LITTLE Japanese, as everyone is always asking), I had my first couchsurfing experiences there, and I little when I traveled to Thailand. Had a very pleasant experience whilst doing it.
PHILOSOPHY
Learn from experiences, good or bad.
Never go by first impressions.
Try not to see the worst in people.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I can host when I have my own place again, (now I'm living with my landlord so it is impossible), but I would like to use other peoples couches/spare rooms etc
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Like I said, I used my place to let others stay while living in Japan a few years ago, and I used it to stay with some people in Bangkok a few years ago. I lost that account, so now I need a new one.
Interests
well, music, I love to play (guitars, basses, banjo, synths, computer programming stuff)
I love to read, right now I'm doing an Irvine Welsh novel, is OK, I will have to let you know at the end.
I am kinda a movie buff, I prefer more interesting movies, but I like the odd comic-book caper every now and again.
I abhor TV and advertisements, other than that there are few things I do hate
- books
- movies
- tv
- music
- sports
- teaching
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies - little miss sunshine, The Royal Tennenbaums, Everything is Illuminated, The Big Lebowski, anything by Christopher Nolan.
Music - The Ramones, Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, Bat for Lashes, The Drums, Bombay Bicycle Club.
Books - Ian Bank's Canal Dreams and The Wasp Factory, anything by Rohl Dahl, Anything by George Orwell, a Japanese novel called 'the sailor who fell from grace out of the sea' (I can't remember the name of the author)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I think teaching for four years in Japan, I taught the same kids, maybe starting at the age of 5, and when I left they were aged at around 8, and now there are some Kyoto kids out there with a Midlands accent! result!
Teach, Learn, Share
I could teach about music, learning how to play something? maybe I could give a helping hand. I love to learn anything. I suck at all sports, so maybe you could help me out in that
Countries I’ve Visited
Malaysia, Switzerland, Thailand, United States
Countries I’ve Lived In
Japan, Spain
