ABOUT ME

Though Gary doesn't retire from air traffic control for another year, we seem to be either on the road or in the air a lot already. Part of that is because our family is fairly scattered these days (we have four grown kids, and two live with their families back east), but mostly we're just very, very interested in travel for the sake of seeing new places. We've couch surfed once and we've also hosted a traveler once from Finland--and we're pretty convinced that there's no better way to meet new people and experience new places.
It just so happened that I retired before Gary--I served over 20 years in the Air National Guard and have also worked as an editor and a high school teacher. It seems that my most constant job, though, is taking care of grandkids (we have eight).
Aside from that, we do various types of volunteer work from the Red Cross, to the National Parks, to our public library. In that way, I suppose we're typical, though I'd rather not use that word to describe us :)

Interests

We're both interested in being outdoors. Day to day that translates to yard work, which we really don't mind (gardening is one of my hobbies). We live in Colorado, so naturally we enjoy hiking, canoeing, camping, bike riding, and we hope to start fishing "in earnest" next year.
We avail ourselves of free outdoor concerts in the summer, but we also enjoy going to the movies. And eating out. Or just eating, period.
When we go someplace new we like to check out the art galleries and museums, but it seems that the best way to get to know a place is just to walk it. As it turns out, we actually walk a lot.
