About Me

I am a 28 year old female currently travelling with my partner (Vinnie). This year we are both studying (Vinnie a Masters of Environmental Science and myself a PhD) and trying to travel as much as possible without flying. We started in Singapore and have made our way up to China.

I am a huge animal lover and will jump at the opportunity to stay anywhere with resident animals. Although I'm an introvert, I'm not shy. I still love meeting people, learning about their lives and culture, and sharing stories together. I just like to have time to wind down at the end of the day.

When I'm not travelling I work as a social worker. Before this trip I was working in family violence, which I became very passionate about and found extremely fulfilling.

I'm also currently doing a PhD. My topic is looking at whether the existence of privately owned orphanages impacts efforts to safely reunify children with their biological families.

At home I love going to cafes, drinking hot chocolates(!), spending time with my pets (two cats and a rabbit), reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, swimming, and of course spending time with friends.

I am new to couchsurfing but I can assure you that myself and Vinnie will be very respectful guests. I am happy to share reviews I have received on the Airbnb app if that would assist in providing peace of mind 😊

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Like many people, I have joined Couchsurfing in hopes of meeting people from the places I visit to get a better understanding of culture and ways of life. I enjoy sharing stories and discovering differences and similarities in our lives.

Interests

I enjoy being outdoors, shopping, and anything "cosy" such as sipping on a hot chocolate or reading a book. I love animals (like a lot) and will jump at any opportunity to stay at accommodation that has a resident cat or dog.

My Favourite Books:
- The Book Thief (all time favourite)

- Shuggie Bain (Douglas Stuart)

Movies and TV Shows (I often watch the same things on repeat - I know what I like and rarely stray!)
- The Office
- Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
- Mary and Max
- The Castle
- Kath and Kim

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Tubing down rapids in The Nile River in Uganda!

Teach, Learn, Share

- Can teach the Nutbush, a simple but iconic dance from Australia!
- Can make fairy bread, teach you to spread Vegemite correctly, or how to do a Tim Tam slam.
- Will willingly teach you to speak like an Australian. G'day is just the beginning.
- Can teach you about Australian history and about our Aboriginal community and their importance to our country.
- If I'm with Vinnie, he is an absolute math and Excel spreadsheet wiz. Have kids who need some homework help? He's your guy.

What I Can Share with Hosts

- Cooking - albeit subpar (lol)
- Need kids entertained while you have a rest? I'm your girl. Before travelling I was a Playgroup facilitator, worked in a parenting program, have worked in education, and just generally love being around kids. Arts, crafts, kicking a ball, dancing... I'm in. Vinnie and I both hold Working with Children Checks (essentially a police check) in Australia.
- Can't be bothered walking your dog? It would be a PRIVILEGE.
