Sobre Mim

I am far more used to writing "about me" for career purposes. So I am not sure where to start with this one.

I grew up in a beautiful city, Gaborone, Botswana. I was born at the Gaborone Private Hospital and I will never be able to call another place home, no matter how in love I may fall with said other place.

I am currently living in Cape Town, South Africa (my parents are still in Botswana though). I am studying a BSc (Honours) in Construction Management at the University of Cape Town. The construction industry is a wild place for a woman but I love it none-the-less.

I am an artist although my chosen career path does not allow me much time to spend with my beloved canvases. Art has become my means of pouring out surplus emotion although I would prefer it to become my regular part time profession. One day I plan on owning my own gallery - watch this space, it will happen.

I have an intense love for cats (believe it or not I do also have a stable partner). I grew up surrounded by felines and my parents are currently owned by 13 fur balls. I have a cat page of Instagram and Facebook called "These Are My Cats" (subtle marketing opportunity taken). I have also always had a general passion for mother nature. Nothing refreshes my soul quite like time spent in African Bushveld.

People describe me as ambitious, driven, kind, caring, thoughtful, colourful, cynical, sarcastic and melodramatic - a fun mixture of a lot of things. My 21st birthday theme was "hard hats and fairy wings." Occasionally I am intelligent too!

Other hobbies include: ballroom dancing, watching cat videos, reading books, dates with friends, the occasional run, baking, playing piano/flute, going to the theater and drinking wine.

I also talk too much (not sure if you have noticed!) But I hope this gives you an idea of the weird creature I am. I have a general dislike for the human species but I absolutely love meeting new people. One thing I really enjoy is a good long chat with someone about interesting things that make me think. If I had a choice between a club and a long dinner with intimate friends, dinner would win 85% of the time!

Por que estou no Couchsurfing?

I have been dying to travel for a long time now. For my 21st my parents have given me the opportunity of my dreams, which I plan on exploiting next year. I intend to start off with a guided Contiki tour and then spend a few months back-packing around Eastern Europe with my best friend. I just know the Contiki tour will not give me enough time in each place!

But my parents are worried (as am I a little!) about finding places to sleep. Showering and eating would be good too. So I am utilising every available resource to build up a portfolio of couches and showers, so that I can avoid sleeping of park benches - I like my comfort a wee too much.

Uma Coisa Incrível que Eu Fiz

A year ago I did an over night hike to a beautiful little location called "Leopard's Hut" somewhere at the top of a mountain range near Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa. A hike that should have taken 4 - 5 hours took me around 2.5 hours. It was stunning. It was cold but quiet. Not even a bird or a cricket was up there. And the views were astounding.

Teach: Did you know that the correct way to pour milk from a cardboard carton is with the outlet at the top as you pour? This prevents the milk from splashing 100% of the time. Useful little fact I learnt. But don't cry if you do spill the milk, there is no use.

Learn: no knowledge is wasted knowledge. Teach me anything and I will learn.

Share: For my honours degree in Construction Management I have to write a thesis. The topic for my thesis is "women in construction: a review of the last 10 years." This is opening my eyes to a lot about the way society operates, especially in the realm of inherent prejudices and how perceptions translate into actions. So this topic is high on my conversation agenda at the moment.

O Que Posso Compartilhar com Anfitriões

What I can share with hosts? I am not sure what this heading is asking me to describe!

I can share with you my sparkly personality and vast knowledge on cats.

I am also more than prepared to become a functional member of your household for the duration of my visit, should I visit. I have a tendency to fill any space I occupy but I do so neatly. I pride myself on my empty sink and beautifully made bed. House work, cooking, grocery shopping...I just want to experience life and people in a part of the world I bearly know enough about to dream about.
