About Me
Hello friends!
I'm a graphic designer and digital coordinator for a national Australian sporting code, but I'm ditching the 9-5 in July to wander this amazing world of ours. Indefinitely, with a bit of luck and a lot of hard work.
I got started kind of late because I thought travel was something reserved for very wealthy people and I thought even if I did travel, I needed to have someone with me.
I took my first solo trip in May 2012 to celebrate my 26th birthday, and despite some mild disasters along the way (funny in the retelling - not so much at the time), I had the time of my life and came to realise I'm not so bad at independent travel.
Consequently, I've finally started slowly answering the wanderlust that has called me to explore places I've only ever read about before. I have been to China twice, Singapore once and the USA once. My upcoming trip (so far) includes the USA, Canada, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. If that goes well, I'm aiming for southeast Asia or Africa next!
Outside of travel, I love reading, design, dance (I take hip hop classes in Brisbane), art, movies and food. Boy do I love food.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
One of the best things about travel is meeting new people and seeing how they live. I feel that this is best achieved by staying with local residents rather than in hotels or hostels full of fellow travellers (although that certainly has its own perks and I do this too).
I'm also more of a small groups kind of gal than lover of crowds, so staying in a more personal setting such as on someone's couch or in their spare room suits my personality better than hostels.
Interests
As mentioned previously, I'm really interested in food, haha! If you know of any great vegan places in your area, I'd love to hear about them. I've also become an excellent cook in the past few years and would love to cook for you if you'd like.
I love being active through dance (mostly hip hop, though I have done some ballet, contemporary, jazz, burlesque and Bollywood), yoga, walking, hiking, swimming and kayaking.
Reading, though I don't get to dedicate as much time to it as I'd like, is one of my favourite hobbies. I also enjoy writing, but get to that particular pursuit even less frequently than reading.
I greatly enjoy photography (although I am more concerned with the visual than the math behind the perfect photo - much to my photography teachers' chagrin) and am looking forward to snapping new places during my adventures.

Music, Movies, and Books
Okay. Embarrassing confession time.
I LOVE cheesy 90s pop. So much. Give me the gooey, sugary goodness of late 90s pop and I'm a happy camper.
My mum raised me on a solid musical diet of Michael Jackson, Prince, Seal, Boyz II Men, Janet Jackson and Gloria Estefan, and they remain my favourite artists to this day.
That said, I enjoy just about everything and listen based on my mood at the time.
Movies... there isn't much I won't watch once - no matter how terrible it is. I'm partial to thrillers/horror with supernatural themes, but often enough you can find me sobbing over a romantic drama or laughing until I cry over cheap comedy.
For all the self-help books I've read, I should probably be a millionaire businessperson by now. I'm evidently not, but I enjoy reading them anyway. I've tried to read Anna Karenina four times. I just can't do it. Currently reading Madame Bovary. I love learning, so any book that can teach me something new is one I'm interested in reading.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was at my heaviest, most unfit and battling a chest infection when I climbed the Great Wall of China. I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting, but for some reason I didn't think it would be AS hard as it ended up being.
It was TOTALLY worth it.
If you ever get the chance to climb the wall, grab it.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'd love to learn more about other people's cultures and traditions, and I can share some awesome recipes and food!
What I Can Share with Hosts
If you host me, I am always good for deep and meaningful conversations AND I can make you the BEST vegan nachos - dare I say the best nachos, period - you will ever taste. I enjoy cooking too so I'm happy to make dinner for my host/s as a thank you for having me.
