About Me

Hey Couchsurfing world :) I'm cycling down and then maybe back up New Zealand for the next couple of months. Get at me if you want to get up to something.

I'm interested in everything except...well we can figure that out when we come to it.

Ready to hit it. See you on the road!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet up with like-minded travellers around the world, share, learn and experience.

I love the Couchsurfing community and everything it stands for. Meeting and connecting with people really shouldn't be as hard as we make it in North America. The thinking here is that people need to put as much space between themselves and others to live a safe, responsible and ideal modern lifestyle. The suburbs and an hour-long commute in traffic morning and night, day in and day out, is the dream. Never meet your neighbours, or speak to anyone you don't know, never walk or bike anywhere, never leave your bubble. House bubble, car bubble, work bubble, coffin bubble (a little dramatic, but you get the picture).

The same idea applies when people need to stay a night away from home. Four white walls, personal kitchen, bathroom with tiny single-serving soaps and giant empty bed of a nice hotel room allows you to be entirely alone for the low, low price of about $100 a night. You can feel safe and secure, and never see another living soul outside of your bubble away from home. And then there was Couchsurfing.

I would take the floor of your closet, sharing in the creation of a home cooked meal, conversation, the experience of your different cultural habits and customs and the possibility of dealing with you snoring all night over the hotel room every single time. It turns out people actually like to be around other people! I want to travel the world to meet others, learn and share, not to see pretty historic things from the windows of different expensive bubbles and go home. To spend a free night on someone's couch is to trust them to do right by you, and vice versa. And you gain so much from that simple exercise. I personally hate locking doors, my bike, my phone screen, etc. To trust is to be free, and to travel is to welcome every new experience with open arms.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Started trekking the Annapurna Circuit by myself without a sleeping bag, then finished it 16 days later with 4 new lifelong friends (/cuddle buddies. The APC gets pretty chilly up at the high pass).

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to dumpster dive, slackline, juggle, make great pancakes and probably all sorts of other rad things. What do you want to learn?
