About Me

CURRENT MISSION

get out, explore, go somewhere new, and push yourself to the limit of what you think you can do because you may prove to yourself that there is no limit at all. Also, embrace your weirdness and go with it.

ABOUT ME

I'm Amy and I have been traveling for the past 3 years with no intention of stopping any time soon. One of those permanent gypsies always finding myself somewhere in the world learning something and meaning amazing people. My first year traveling I wwoofed and volunteered through europe and southeast asia working on permaculture farms, or found myself working at hostels or restaurants bartering work for food and a place to sleep. I hitch hiked with friends through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Indonesia going from farm to farm and getting involved in as many volunteer opportunities as I could. In Indonesia I spent one month in the Borneo rainforest camping at Indo's 3rd rainbow gathering which really wasn't like a typical rainbow gather, rather it was like survival camp in the rainforest with 15 odd awesome people. Being in Asia brought up my love of building with natural materials and when I moved to Australia for a year, I decided to build upon those skills and learn more about natural building. I spent most of my time in Tasmania and built an earthship there, a straw bale house, and experimented with cob and cordwood. I also got into the environmental activist group in Hobart and the dumpster-diving community. I love traveling around from place to place because I like being on my toes, and I love getting involved in communities at each place I go to.

PHILOSOPHY

Take risks, take chances, and regret none of them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At this point, being a long term traveler, I participate as a surfer only. I really like joining couchsufing gathering in each country I go to because they're always so much fun, filled with very active, fun, and inspiring people.

Interests

I love to explore new places and meet new people. I'm really interested in plants- wild edibles and medicinal plants. I love natural building and I would like to make it into a profession. Anything I can make/do with my hands, any form of craftsmenship makes me happy. I like the feeling of creating something especially if it's a new or difficult task. I love dumpster-diving and if your not into it, I'd like to show you just how great it is, environmental activism, cooking food of all types and collecting recipes, welding, angle grinding, carpentry, wearing funky outfits for the sake of it, tarot, fossicking, and I'm also really into games- I travel with two packs of cards, a backgammon set, and dominoes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling around the world and working on farms has been an amazing experience for me. From living in a caravan in the woods, to living deep in the Black Forest, to managing an organic farm in Thailand, to hitchhike through SE Asia, to living in the Borneo rainforest, to building houses in Tasmania. I have learned so many new skills and gained a sense of self confident I never had before.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love a good storyteller, I like to trade stories with the people I meet and listen and learn new things from them. I can also play you some songs on the ukulele and charango and teach you to play too if you'd like!
