Overview
About Me
My partner Ben and I are on a year long trek across the eastern hemisphere, spanning New Zealand to Iceland. We're both adventurous, outgoing folk that like to share experiences with locals.
Amy: Wildlife biologist turned water resource scientist, basically playing in stream beds and on sides of mountains. If it's outdoors, it's where I want to be. Now cast adrift, trekking through the Eastern hemisphere, chasing an eternal spring. Easy going, but won't eat out of the free bin (unless there's creme brulee somewhere in there).
Ben: Tall, dark, and handsome; plumber with an affinity for board games, extreme sports, and dramatic social encounters. Always up for a night on the town, or a night on the couch. Enjoys the finer parts of life, including a comfy pair of sweatpants (mostly to wear to the grocery store).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on couch surfing to bond with the locals. When I was young I stayed with host families and that experience has always stuck with me. I try to stay with locals whenever I travel because it allows me to experience the culture in a way that I don't get by staying in a hostel. Vice versa, I like to host people from foreign countries for the same reasons. Unfortunately, grad school has made surfing and hosting difficult.
Interests
Reading, wine tasting, most things outdoors (climbing, backpacking, scuba diving), meeting the locals, tasty new cuisines!
Music, Movies, and Books
There's just too many, but fantasy fiction dominates my bookshelf. As for my music library, it shuffles through electronica to folk; typically it was free from google play.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Been a roving wildlife biologist, playing with bears, bats, and birds. Also served in AmeriCorps teaching science to at risk youth.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a swiss army knife of natural resource knowledge. Not to mention, I can Google just about anything.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I may not be a 5 star french chef, but I make some mean southern cook'n. Good with kids too if you have them. All else fails, a 6 pack of beer or a bottle of wine
