About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make lots of things with my hands.

ABOUT ME

I like simple pleasures... sitting in the sun with a cold stout beer, rum or minty lemonade while reading Calvino, Borges or an art book.

PHILOSOPHY

Use your hands! They are awesome and when you let them free they have a life of their own. Set them on a piano, pick up a paintbrush, sprinkle some seeds, cut up a potato.
Don't let insecurities get in the way. They stop people all over from doing amazing things. One thing I find which helps: to do things fast. Speeden the time it takes for the idea to sprout in your mind to making it happen. Beat the insecurities to it! I run a Collective (a type of club) at the moment which concerns itself with the fruition of ideas... we help make them happen, whatever they are. Particularly like doing things which bring people together in bouts of creativity and spontaneity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't currently have a couch to offer but I have myself! Let me take you to some cool haunts, we'll throw some paint and words around, meet interesting people and have conversations with them, and each other.

Interests

At university I study Linguistics and Psychology. I am fascinated by language and how it can shape the person who speaks it. I love also to study neuroscience of language, such as how an injury to the brain can affect a person´s communication. Also how babies can learn language and the milestones that they must reach which involve different understandings of the world and the way it works. I like to use phonetics to transcribe languages and one of my dreams is to get a grant to write a thesis one day, on an Australian Aboriginal language. I'd like to ride my bike all over Australia working on this.
In my psychology studies I mostly focus on the senses like sight and hearing and how we use them to understand the world. There is so much to learn!

Another huge passion of mine is ART. I am constantly working some project, be it a drawing, painting, sculpture or concept for performace. My biggest activity is attending art galleries, especially opening nights where there is free wine and cheese. My favourite combination, after beer and cheese. I also love to hear people talk about what art they are working on, or what artworks move them and why. At the moment I am curating a show to put on later this year (2013).

Another interest of mine is bicycles. I am always restoring or fixing some bike or another.I love to ride and I love the bike culture.

Music, Movies, and Books

At the moment I am reading:
- If On A Winter's Night A Traveler by Italo Calvino (late at night or the cusp of dawn)
- A book of essays by Jorge Luis Borges (over breakfast)
- Drawn From Life diary entries by John Olsen (lazy cafe afternoons)
- Book of drawings by Egon Schiele (morning sun on the grass)
- and another by Aubrey Beardsley (also)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I filled up a train carriage here in sydney with a gypsy jazz blues band and ALOT of dancers, that was great.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach lots of hand crafts, like crocheting, basketmaking, origami, jewellery, bookbinding....
but I'd always like to learn more! At the moment I am really keen on learning leatherwork and resin.

I can share underground sorts of activities in Sydney (poetry and secret warehouse parties etc) and maybe you will even be here when I am hosting some event to do with art or music or craziness.
