About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Be friendly, and eat a baguette with delicious French cheese!
ABOUT ME
Amy says: I am (finally) a philosophy major, following my love of exploration, ethics, globalism, and women's studies. I've dabbled in International Studies, History, Sociology, Social Work, and Nursing - I am curious about a lot of things! I am a Seattleite at heart, with an overwhelming thirst for social justice and travel. I have an idealistic dream for universal liberation and/or world peace, which may or may not make me down to earth. My wish is to (someday) bike across the United States (or the Czech Republic).
My boyfriend David says:
We are planning to visit my sister in Ireland, and Amy's Great Aunt (age 101!!) in England. We also want to eat food in Paris! This will be our first couchsurfing experience.
PHILOSOPHY
It's lengthy and I try to keep it fluid, modifying it whenever I see fit --- I believe an open & humble mind is key, I believe in compassion and karma, and I believe that whether or not it is possible, we should try our best to make the world a better place. Human relationships are powerful, and greed/ignorance/anger blind a lot of people to the true joys of life, and deprive them of the moment. Although I am often confused and hurt, I also feel a lot of compassion for those who hurt others and are suffering themselves.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We are learning more about couchsurfing everyday - We are still super new so we would love to learn more! We are hoping to be polite and thoughtful guests, and then hopefully host people in the future! I (Amy) love interesting dinner conversations, and I have a dozen favorite coffee hangouts. :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
From Amy: None! Officially, anyway. I've stayed with a few families during homestays (a few in Guatemala, and one in Thailand) and it was fantastic. It was a completely different way to experience a new culture, and I felt the insights and perspectives were much deeper and more complex than the typical tourism tract. I've been fortunate to be around an international community for most of my life, and I couldn't imagine life without learning about the diversity of thoughts, feelings, and experiences of the human species.
Interests
Grrl power, social justice, philosophy, food, sociology, coffee, dogs, purple, parmesan-dill scones... For David, he loves coffee, books, gadgets, anything wired or electronic, guitar, Jimi Hendrix, Albert Einstein, heavy/classic rock, and horror movies. We both like to go camping, eat burritos, read books, travel, and drink coffee.

Music, Movies, and Books
Amy says: Lots! I love Paul Simon, let's be honest. I used to be a drummer and now I'm learning guitar --- acoustic is my fave but I love a good electric guitar solo! (Jimi went to my high school. :) ) A current favorite book has to be The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. I also love documentaries --- The Philosopher Kings was great: a few custodial staff members share their wisdom, garnered from years of cleaning up after others.
David says: Horror movies, nonfiction, The Count of Monte Cristo.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've spent 10 days in silence on a meditation retreat in Chaiya, Thailand.
Teach, Learn, Share
Ummmm I want to learn A LOT! I am still so young and feel like my skills are very general at this point. I could always teach you a few drum beats, and we could jam together! I would love to learn how to cook better.
