About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My next goal is to travel out west - I've been to so many foreign countries, but have yet to see most of my own nation.

ABOUT ME

I am currently a Medical Student at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. I was a French major as an undergrad. I love seeing new things, meeting new people, and having fun. I play tennis, do lots of yoga and rock climbing, and I love taking my sister's dog out on hikes. I have an awesome family and my friends are all amazing people. It rocks.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I need more couch surfing experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My roommate had a couch surfer stay one night, and I had such a great time getting to know a fellow traveler. That was my first and only couch surfing experience (yet!), and I couldn't have been happier with it.

Interests

I like hearing music I've never heard, watching movies I've never seen, and going places I've never been. I guess I thrive on new experiences and learning. I could learn about human biology all day, every day, and be perfectly happy about it (hence the medical school thing). Kittens and puppies make my heart melt. I don't really like pie...

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music and singing. I play the piano and I'm learning how to play the guitar. There are few, if any, types of music I don't enjoy, and there's nothing I won't listen to at least once. I always enjoy a good book when I have the time, and I really like a movie that makes me think.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have a story about working in a clinic for a few weeks in Kenya (Nov-Dec 2007). We were seeing super sick patient after super sick patient, and after a while, it really wears you down, constantly wondering, will this person be okay when we leave? One morning, I was working with a doctor who was seeing a really sick infant...very lethargic, high fever, bad cough, etc. We treated her, and I was left wondering, yet again, what will happen next? Of course, I didn't expect an answer... This was a turning point in the trip for me, because I was really starting to get depressed about all of the heartbreak I was witnessing around me.
A few days later, we attended a church service in the village where the clinic is. During the service, I turned behind me and spotted the same mother and baby I had seen before, only this time they were both happy, smiling, and lively. Immediately my feelings of anxiety and depression were swept away. I knew that by donating our time and energy at this clinic, we were actually changing lives. This experience really did alter the course my life, and it gave me the push I needed to keep on working through all of the chemistry classes I had to take to get to medical school. For me, being a doctor will definitely be worth the hard work. I can't think of anything that would make me happier.
