About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Finish a solo piece, and find a way to have time to do nothing at all
ABOUT ME
I'm a biologist, who somewhere along a post-doc, started to dance. 4 years later, I decided that dance and performance was what I wanted.
That was three years ago. After three bumpy years of transition, figuring out and trying out things, I am currently finishing a solo piece, which will be my first big thing/show/piece/work.
I also do scientific translation, which is what pays my bills. And very much hope that one day I can live off art.
This is the very summarized version, because filing up all this there is an infinity of stories, and details, and a constant flow of surprising stuff.
For a bit of more random information: I have two cats, collect cat wiskers (the ones they shed), am compulsive about stepping on dry leaves, cannot live without tea (well, I could, but...), and enjoy listening to other peoples' conversations on public transportation. I recently decided I needed a real-sized kangaroo for my piece, could not find one, and have now a person-sized T-rex.
PHILOSOPHY
I don't know that I have one... I am very amused by life in general.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Travelling for me has ceased to be about sightseeing, and became about living the place that I am visiting. That makes no sense without the people who live there.
Can't really think of travelling somewhere and not couchsurf anymore (well, unless I have friends living where I am travelling...).
And so far, I've only met people that I am very happy to have met, and spend time, and share with.
For the piece I am working on, I needed daily sounds from Perth, Australia, where I have never been (long story), and I asked the couchsurfing community whether anyone could send me some. Not only I got sounds, but I got videos, which I am using. And that just made my piece so much richer :)
Interests
Dance and performance, obviously. Music, art, movies, books, stories. Non-sense and quirckiness, and pointless conversations. And yes, I remain a scientist, and am a geek at heart, so... thinking about things.
Music, Movies, and Books
... ok... some of them...
Electronic, indie, jazz, minimalism. Lately been listening a lot to Moderat, Tim Hecker, Destroyer and the latest Tame Impala album.
Books: "The amazing adventures of Kavalier and Clay" by Michael Chabon is literary perfection. Currently reading the Dune trilogy.
Hanif Kureishi, Graham Swift, David Leavit, Haruki Murakami, Kurt Vonegut, Stephen King, Cormac McCarthy.
Blade Runner remains my favorite movie, ever since I first watched it (I was 12). Tarantino, Jonh Carpenter, Stanley Kubrick, Wes Anderson, David Lynch, David Cronenberg. Last movie I saw and loved was "The lobster" from Yorgos Lanthimos.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Listening/watching the prayer at dawn at a budhist monastery in Emei Shan, China. We were the only non-monks staying at the monastery.
Most everything for the past 6 years...
