About Me

ABOUT ME

I think I have a decent sense of humour -- a tool increasingly indispensable in the world we live in. I have a good eye for places. Also people, and what makes them do the things they do.

I love the mountains. The stretch of Himalayas to the North of India, Nepal and Bhutan, is my favourite place in the world. I remember standing at the edge of a switchback trail, my right foot planted not quite securely on a slippery piece of rock, craning my neck to catch, through the branches of a pine tree, my first ever glimpse of the Mount Everest summit. To come out of your camp in the night, shivering from the cold, to look out at the Great Himalaya Range glitter in the starlight, is my idea of heaven. Music, history, folklore and politics are some of the other things that fascinate me.

PHILOSOPHY

My right to swing my arm ends where your nose begins.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Allman, Duane to Zappa, Frank.

Books: I read, write and speak two languages fluently -- Bangla and English, and both have a rich wealth of literature. So pretty much everything I can get -- as long as it's literature, or related to history, politics, arts or popular culture. I speak Hindi and Nepali, but not read them too well, hoping to brush both up, so that i can broaden my literary horizons.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1. I saw a kingdom become a democracy before my own eyes. i saw ordinary people who would not be stopped by beatings, tear gas and bullets. i saw an unarmed population persuade an armed militia to take to the ballot.

2. I walked along the edges of the mighty Chomo Lungma.

3. I Saw The Rolling Stones in concert from a hand-shaking distance.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could answer some questions on India and Nepal, probably. And many on any rock music that originated in the 60s and 70s.
