I like exploring the culture of the places that I visit. Having grown up in a tourist destination, I always recommend people to get a local's input on which places to visit to really immerse themselves in the culture (not just fall in the tourist traps!) Staying with a local definitely allows that cultural exchange to happen at a deeper level.
