Music, Movies, and Books
im not very good with movies and books, they seem to pass in a blur then be forgotten, but i watched across the universe the other day that was great. i have a huge love for newzealand reggae roots music, some of my best times have been at festivals dancing to katchafire, cornerstone roots, little bush men, unity pacific or the likes. but as anyone who has been raised by parents who lived through the 60s must, i also love neil young, van morrison, the beatles, jimi hendrex and jj cale! especially when travelling these guys all remind me of home.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
one moment that sticks in my mind, is a trip me and my friend made, we hitched down the west coast of newzealand and only someone who has done it can appreciate how beautiful it it. a spectacular arrangement of golden beaches strewn with twisted and knotted driftwood, jagged black towers of rock floating on a sea or pure blue amid the beer bottle brown kelp, impressively steep mountains that push and jostle for a position closest to the huge Tasman ocean, covered in green so thick its impossible to walk through, there sloaps are just for the birds that sing out over the few isolated shacks nestles in between sea and mountains. when we where there we camped on the beach near hokitica with a small fire then flecked blue from the salt, the sun set and turned everything pink the snow on the mountains where like beacons against the dusk and the mist started to gather among the hills, we went to sleep late when our fire had died to smouldering embers, then the sky opened and the most torrential rain pummelled the coast, cleaning everything so the next morning the world was pure and clean, nothing was dry, including all out clothes, it was a really beautiful night.
