About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To be the best parent that I can be..and see as much of the world as i can.
ABOUT ME
My home is in the KENEPURU HEAD, KENEPURU SOUND, 12 kms after PORTAGE, and 2kms after SANDY BAY, MARLBOROUGH. Couch surfing does not allow me to list my rural home AND only allows the closest city, BLENHEIM, 90kms away! My original name is Anaru but the paperwork uses the English version but call me Anaru, my Maori name. I am a physical education assistant at a local government gym. I live weekly in Blenheim but my home is in the Kenepuru Sound, Marlborough, adjacent to the Queen Charlotte Track. I enjoy swimming and cycling. I read books and watch films. Much of my time is spent working or training and communicating with my children. I also like paddling in a doubled-hull canoe known as WAKA AMA, a traditional Polynesian style of canoe. I enjoy teaching people what I know. I can host people occasionally at my cottage in the Marlborough Sounds near the Queen Charlotte Track.
PHILOSOPHY
Being the best father I can be.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I enjoy meeting people and believe that by encouraging people to visit my home, this builds trust between strangers, then people have no fear of each other and learn to trust, this is the type of world that I would like for my children. I have a sanctuary in the Marlborough Sounds and encourage friends and family to go there as often as possible.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
In July 2012 I went to Cape Cod and stayed with surfer host Abby Cleary. Abby surfed my couch in Nelson in 2011. Had a great time! In 2017 I surfed in Waco, Texas, Daytona Beach, Florida and Key west, Florida. I didn't surf much because my kids were still growing up but love travelling now they are older. I think hosting so many people not only gave me lots to learn but also they gave me many references.
Interests
Reading true crime, sports, watching a good film especially a thriller or a comedy- I like great conversation. History is interesting and I enjoy meeting local people when I travel somewhere. When i was 16 I started a carving apprenticeship and learnt how to carve wood. I studied Communism when I was younger and like meeting people from former communist countries to discuss history and culture. I like training with Russian kettle bells.

Music, Movies, and Books
Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes.I like international cinema. especially Trop Pas D'elite from Brazil, and Kolya, a Czech film. I prefer live music and like to go to concerts. I have a vinyl recollection too, which many couch surfers I hosted have enjoyed...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Present at the births of my children. I rode my 900ss Ducati as fast as the speedo showed which was 240km an hr I think. I have sky dived, ridden an air boat across the Florida everglades looking for "gators" and I have watched Ronda Rousey get knocked out by Hollie Holm...
Teach, Learn, Share

Learn: I want to learn how to live off the grid. Someone to help me start some food gardens 😎
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am a judo black belt, a coach and instructor so I can teach you the beautiful art of judo...I also use kettlebells a lot so I can teach you a kettlebell workout. I can also teach a basic stretching routine as well as I have an older kayak and people can paddle around the bay and anywhere they want. I can also teach how to paddle my waka ama (outrigger canoe)...
