ABOUT ME
I am currently traveling the US in a small fiberglass travel trailer I spent 6 months hard labor redesigning and renovating. I have a 3-legged Navajo rez dog named Ned that goes everywhere with me.
History:
About half my family comes from England. They ventured out to Texas on covered wagons about three generations ago, and settled in scrubby pasture land, near Dallas. The other half comes from all over nothern Europe. Some arrived near Mayflower times. There were few yankees and lots of southerners on that side of the family. I think in general we went straight from European to southerners, around 200 years ago. My Dad grew up in the slums of Little Rock, AR, missing being contemporaneous with Bill Clinton by a few years.
I arrived in Colorado at age six and grew up in some fairly bleak suburbs - a land with not much dirt and lots of shopping. The local mall was my second home. Needless to say, by high school, we were all on drugs. Then I got a philosophy degree and embarked on a life of intense curiosity, skepticism and aimlessness, always taking time to work on my brooding skills.
I move around a lot, read a lot of books, watch tons of DVDs. I also make steel sculpture, and have for over a decade. Also into yoga and Aikido, intermittently, for nearly two decades. I did a little international traveling way back when, to Mexico and Europe, and only picked it up again a few years ago.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Looking to meet people and possibly borrow driveway or nearby street space as I travel. Also camping: I live in my trailer, often in places way, way away from people, for free, so perhaps some people will want to go camping. I do have a spare couch in my trailer, but you might have trouble dislodging Ned from it
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None yet.
Interests
Into: Sculpture, ideas, sex, science, science fiction, history, historical fiction, good but not fancy food, building and inventing stuff, vodka, indie and foreign films - sometimes even rom-coms. Becoming more interested in buying land and possibly even going off-grid - I think I need a bigger buffer zone between me and mainstream US culture/people.
Not into: team sports, mountain sports, fishing, discos, malls, mainstream media, status consumerism, any pursuit based on a profound lack of critical thinking

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was on a plane with an electrical systems failure, the first day flights resumed after 9/11. First they thought the baggage compartment was on fire, then they thought the landing gear was broken. We actually flew by another plane so they could look out the window to see if the wheels were down before we could make an emergency landing. They had us brace for impact!
To show us goodwill, the airline generously gave us a $5 certificate for airport food and a nice 8 hour wait for the next flight.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am happy to teach people how to weld and work steel. I used to teach classes in Seattle. If you are a steel sculptor, or have a welding equipment and want to know how to use it, let me know.
I know how to pack a fairly light bag.
