Über mich

Big bike rider, but no longer a racer. Mostly offroad (what people call Mountain biking, even though I rarely go on mountains), still ride bmx jumps (called "trails", which is confusing since "mountain biking" is usually on trails, but a different type).

Tinkerer on all things, voracious reader of nonfiction/science type stuff, environmentally aware, eat healthy but pile it on the plate after a good ride or jog. And notice I didn't say run, as I really can't say I actually 'run' anymore.

I do have kids, so I am trying to work out how to have guests over who are in my neck of the woods. It is challenging to do that when you have to get meals ready, teeth brushed, and things of this nature. And not everyone couchsurfing has crossed this threshold yet, where it must be silent when bedtime hits. I know, sure sounds odd to those on the other side of this bridge. I was there once, long long ago.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I spent many fun years trying to make it bike racing, and almost the entire time was spent camping, but mostly car camping, or trackside camping, or camping under various sketchy forms of shelter. Rarely was it in someone's house. That, in hindsight, almost seems too easy.

But I haven't given up on humanity yet. I know there are other good people out there. And you meet no one hiding in a hotel room.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I have ridden off medium size ramps of dirt and wood and backflipped a bicycle.

I also rode 300 miles in a week. But wait, no big deal, right? I forgot the over two mountain ranges, with snow, and across a desert parts.

I also used to have a meaningless soul sucking office job. But that is behind me now. But who knows, maybe it will reappear without the soul sucking and meaningless part. I certainly enjoyed the brief accomplishment parts of it.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Love to practice learning languages. Any.

Love to meet people and discuss fun topics. And heavy ones, if they can handle it and the time is right.

Was ich mit Gastgebern teilen kann

A serious lust for life (kudos to Iggy Pop. Still a great song). This can go in any direction. Midnight debate walk, or a big hike, or library session, or...why not an awesome bike ride. But that is my own predjudice. I try to stay away from bicycle recommendations, as everyone seems to have their own opinion, whether they have experience or not.

But mostly I go to bed early nowadays. Although I can get serious about Connect 4.

I love to cook breakfast. It's almost always oatmeal and bacon (when I cook). But I am somewhat methodical and ritualistic about it. You may not even notice.

I would certainly be respectful of someone offering me a place to stay. I've traveled enough to see there are too many takers and not enough giver-backers. I'd certainly offer to cover dinner as well, although I am partial to local joints that are unpolished but fantastic in the flavor department.
