About Me
PHILOSOPHY
I think it's always going to be a work in progress. A path unfolding. I like to think there is some kind of meaning to all this. I'd like to make some kind of a positive contribution to the world. Then again from the point of view of a single human being, it's hard to tell what is positive or negative or if there is such a distinction in the bigger picture at all. For me, happiness and inspiration are good. But suffering is an inevitable part of life - something I'm still struggling to accept, along with all the other limitations of our human condition. I guess all I can do is make the best of it. I value friendship and beauty of all kinds and good moments spent enjoying both. I also value learning and self-improvement and the ways in which we seek and create beauty and meaning and inspiration.
Interests
Music: I love to sing! Also I studied the piano when I was a child and am now discovering it's actually quite fun to play it.
Psychology, especially clinical and counselling psychology - I hope to end up working in that area in the future. But also social psychology and, well, any kind of psychology. I just like psychology. I clearly chose the right major. :)
Good art, good fiction, good movies.
Western Mystery Traditions. Well, in theory the Eastern ones as well and in general the many different spiritual paths that exist in our society.
I suppose on an even more general level I could just say the society itself and people and the things that make us human... and life, the Universe, and everything. :)

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: I love reading when I have the time and energy for it. I have a special place in my heart for fantasy and sci-fi, other than that I'm not a big fan of genre fiction. The plot shouldn't be predictable from the start and I like a reasonable degree of complexity, but it's also important for the writing to be smooth and emotionally engaging. I do have to admit I love happy endings. There's so much suffering in life itself, we should at least have some relief in fiction!
I also read some non-fiction, mostly about the topics I mentioned under "Interests".
I prefer to read books in the original language if it's a language I'm reasonably familiar with.
Some favourites: Hermann Hesse, Joanne Harris, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, George R.R. Martin, Paulo Coelho, Malcolm Gladwell
Movies: same as books. I love good fantasy and sci-fi, but also anything that speaks meaningfully about people and their lives. Again, I like happy endings.
Some favourites: Stardust, Stargate, Interview with the Vampire, Chocolat, Serenity, Phantom of the Opera
Music: lots and various. I go through phases where I mostly listen to one style or another. Some I end up coming back to again and again. I would probably like a random piece of music if it's one of the following styles: alternative rock, symphonic metal, classical crossover, new age, darkwave, post rock. Also, a special subsection for classical music: Romantic operas and compositions for piano, Classical symphonies, Baroque compositions for strings, anything Renaissance and medieval.
Some favourites: Enya, Nightwish, Hayley Westenra, Diary of Dreams, Imogen Heap, Dead Can Dance
