About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To remain at peace enough with myself to positively, and practically help thoes who need it.

ABOUT ME

What to say... Well, I have lived in Seattle most of my life, other than the two years I lived in Bellingham, Washington, and the months that I have spent traveling. I love Washington State. I have been accross the world and it is still one of the most beautiful places on earth.
I am a nursing student currently, with the ultimate goal of participating in Doctors Without Boarders to work in a relatively uninhibited non-biased manor in places that need medical help.
I am generally pretty easy to get along with, and am usually pretty difficult to offend.
I like to laugh, and will poke fun but only if it is reciprocated and appreciated. You can always let me know if it has gone to far.
I love to be outside. Camping is my favorite way to spend a vacation (cheap is good!). I am always down to throw around a frisbee, or kick aroud a soccor ball. Not to mention riding bikes.
I am generally pretty calm and laid back, but I will be sure to let people know when I am tired or fed up.

PHILOSOPHY

Try to keep things simple. It is easy to loose sight of yourself when things get too complicated. Do things for yourself, but in a way that is concious and considerate of others. If things get to be too much, take a step back, take a deep breath and remember its not the end of the world. But more than anything, remember that everyone deserves some understanding and pacience no matter how difficult that may be to give sometimes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By being a part of the couch surfing community, I want to be able to provide access, information and assisance to people who are as interrested in traveling the world and being out of their comfortable element as I am. And in return, hope for the same hostpitality and graciousness.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I spent three weeks after my first year in college couch surfing. My room mates and I were between the dorms and an apartment and for all intents and purposes were homeless. The next summer, we hosted a guy from Nepal on our couch for the entire three months. He had gotten into some legal trouble and was rather down and out.
Most recently, on a bike trip down the west coast, a couple alowed the two of us on the trip to pitch a tent in their yard when we had no where to stay.
Overall, I hope that most people would show me the same generosity that I try to bestow on people who need it. I like to think that people are generally good and trustworthy, and opening your home or even sending a helpful email is a good way to express that.

Interests

Well, Im interrested in travel, but I suppose most people on this site are. I would like to be able to hit all seven continents in my life time. (Four down, three to go!) I love riding bikes (bicycles that is), talking about bikes, working on bikes, generally anything regaurding bikes. I play soccor on a co-rec team. I love to read and play and listen to music. I LOVE cooking with and for people. Brunch scrambles are the best, everyone brings something to the meal and it all goes into one communal hodgepodge. There is always a party if food is being made.

Music, Movies, and Books

Right now I am in somewhat of a female blues singer (Nina simone, Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday) and Neil Young phase. I also adore Nico Case, and have been listening to some Neutral Milk Hotel, Catpower and the Black Keys.
As far as books...Right now I am reading The Brothers Karamozov (Dostoyevsky), To a God Unknown (Steinbeck), Letters to a Young Poet (Rilke), and this funny book called Geek Love (Katherine Dunn). I am a big Herman Hesse fan and I love Steinbeck, although he can get a bit tiresome sometimes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been to Antarctica. It is difficult to describe the desolate beauty of the ice, but when we first landed on the Ice runway outside of McMurdo, I was speachless.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am more than happy to show someone how to change/patch a bike tire. I know that this can be a challenging first hurdle on the road to bike maintenence.

Countries I’ve Visited

Germany, Italy, New Zealand

Countries I’ve Lived In
