I'm interested in avoiding the mistakes I've already made, and perhaps making a few new ones.

ABOUT ME

I aspire to be a tournament-level Scrabble player, but as yet I lack the time and level of life-denial necessary to achieve my goal. I must content myself with acting all superior whenever someone says "less" when they should say "fewer," and in my spare time I torment my 11-year-old with requests that she brush her teeth and remember her raincoat. I also teach high school English, and have found to my dismay that I absolutely love being around adolescents, far more than when I was one myself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

this is ghoulish, but it truly is the most amazing thing i have ever seen: i watched someone i love die very peacefully, and it has made me less afraid. It happened during the same year I had my daughter, which was also the most amazing thing I have ever done. together these experiences taught me to trust the body. it knows what it is about.

basically, all i have to offer is that i can make people laugh. oh, wait. i take that back. i can refresh your memory as to the plot lines of at least a dozen of the major English-language classics. i actually also do know how to correctly place a hyphen, if you're into that sort of thing.
